What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

Last weekend I stopped at a stationery store and saw a Kaweco Student Demonstrator at the counter. I left immediately before impulse could take over, but the coffee shop I went to was only a couple of blocks away, so I gulped my coffee and went straight back. I haven't written much with it yet, but the nib is consistent and it's weighted really nicely.

A few days later a Wing Sung 618, which I had no memory whatsoever of ordering, showed up in the mail. That was a late, late night Amazon purchase.

I went to my stationery store to buy inks and saw Pilot metro on sale for $10.50. Bought two. One for a friend who had asked to buy that pen for hom. So he paid me the price and took the pen. The other I gifted to another friend who used to write with a roller ball pen. And since he likes green ink I also gifted him with a 62ml Pelikan brilliant green ink bottle.

When I noticed Manufactum had these in stock again in december, I had to get one. At once.

Bought another couple of gold Parker 75s from the Meru factory as well as a 75 flighter with a bent nib.

Then had a weak moment and bought a Carene in marine Amber off eBay . Have wanted one for years. Very long story attached to this one. A story of a seller with incredible integrity.

Also picked up a Parker 75 premier Athenes listed as an insignia.

I may be in trouble when SWMBO notices.

Forgot the Parker 65 with B or BB which arrived the other day.

As I said I think all my pen purchases are impulsive. Ebay and me is like letting a small child lose in a lolly shop and providing no supervision.

I had just purchased a TWSBI Eco EF and Noodler's Ahab, then the next day saw Goulet Pens had a Kaweco Skyline Sport EF on closeout and had gotten the Kaweco converter back in stock. None of these are expensive pens, but buying a new pen the day after I bought two feels impulsive.

I just bought a Franklin-Christoph Model 31 in some kind of beautiful ruby-red pattern with a music nib off Instagram.

I'll come up with something eventually.

The SF Pilot Falcon i just received today. I love the way it writes, it completely fulfills my expectations for what I wanted. Its deffinitly really light and unsubstantial feeling compared to all my other pens, but i can get over that seeing as the metal version was $100 more.

On the last weekend of 2017, there was an estate sale in my area which featured a number of high end fountain pens. Unfortunately, I was out of town when that took place. When I returned, I contacted the person who conducted the sale and learned that roughly half did not sell, and they were willing to further discount asking prices. Although I was not specifically looking for any of these models, the prices were just too good to pass up. I ended up getting a Pelikan "New York", a Waterman Serenite, a large size Cartier Diablo, and the largest size S.T. Dupont Olympio Vertigo. Of the 4, only the Pelikan had previously been inked. They are all beautiful, and I'm looking forward to using them.

Not counting the PIF of a Kaweco ICE Sport in red with a M nib that arrived today. (After all, it is a PIF and not a purchase)

I bought the following this past week. New barrel and section for one of my Parker 45's. The original burgundy one went through the laundry.

I got it from Five Star Pens. I got the green. All he had left were green and gray.

I also bought a Parker 51 demi Vacumatic - it will arrive on Monday, according to latest tracking information.

A Montblanc 149 (around 1955) in almost mint condition, with a medium (more like bold) nib. Turned out to be the best nib I have.

Last night I attended a meet-up in Dallas with Lisa Vanness, who is in town for market. She showed me a couple of Onotos, a brand I have never gotten to see before. One was the Doctor's Pen. Ordinarily, I don't like to call attention to being a physician, but this pen is beautifully done, including the clip, which is a sterling and vermeil Staff of Asclepius. So many Doctor's Pens have the incorrect Cadeucus, which has two snakes. I ordered the Onoto in black, with a fine 18k nib, for use at the office.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Don't know if this qualifies as an impulsive buy, found an unread message in my messenger inbox from a few years back when I was combing though it for another message. A lady asked if I was interested in Parker 51s and well... of course I was :D Netted what seems by the pictures to be a minty burgundy Mark I Parker 51 with a gold filled cap, with what seems to be an EF or F octanium nib. And a nice equally minty Parker 51 clamshell box for two pens. Not bad for 40€ plus S&H. Should arrive by the end of the week...

The green 45 on the left is the same in the photo above and the 51 Demi second from the right is a 51 Demi Vacumatic

that arrived today. Cordovan Brown, 1st quarter 1948, 14k EF to F.

My last impulse buy is a Baoer

fpn_1516665221__p1140580-3.jpg

Such an impulse buy that I am not quite sure what Baoer model it is

fpn_1516665379__p1140579-30.jpg

such a quick impulse that I do not know how much I paid for it (a few dollars though, not more)

fpn_1516665526__p1140578-3.jpg

nor do I have any record either on paper or the PC that I did buy it (unless I check my paypal account)

I think I know where I bought it from, but that's about it! :)

Like some other impulse buys I have not tried it yet.
This thread just reminded me... :D

EDIT: just tried it now, by dipping it, very smooth nib! nice!

  • 11 months later...

Well, chaps and chapettes of FPN, I've had quite a year already!

Last week, a blue and gold veined Conway Stewart #90 ballpoint in its box (£18), a Conway 25 pencil (£7) and today what looks like an early black vulcanite lever pen by Onoto. It certainly has an Onoto nib!

That, plus a Kingswood-esque pencil, a (Waterman?) pencil and a tired looking 30s mottled vulcanite eyedropper, all for a fiver! (Surely the nib is worth that?)

It was a job lot and I'm a sucker for a bargain...Let's see if my latest gamble pays off! I'll certainly look a prat if I'm wrong!

If someone could kindly assist me in working out how to post photos, I'll share my finds with you!

(P.S I'm twenty going on a hundred and twenty, so my IT skills are on par with victorian zoo animals!)

It's not really an impulse buy, but the price is a bit steep for me. I bought a new Pilot Vanishing Point on Classifieds here in matte black for $90. It's coming on Thursday, so excited!

Mine was a Stipula Etruria Yellow Ebonite with a T-Flex titanium nib.

A major disappointment, nib wrote dry and scratchy, the T-Flex nib was stiff as a nail.

A $500USD pen on sale for $299, that, I hate to say because lots of affordable pens look pretty nice, looked really cheap.

The vendor took it back and gave me a refund. I didn't like the pen, but the customer service was stellar.
