I just bought a Pelikan 140 KM nib. Now I have to decide which nib it will replace.

My last impulsive pen purchase was the Retro51 2022 Cherry Blossom fountain pen from Fahrney's 10 days ago.  I was somewhat restrained and kept it in the shopping cart all day long to make sure I still want it at the end of the day. It is a very nice pen, but the nib (1.1 stub) I'm not sure about. I will need more time to try different inks. R+K Alt Grüngold is not it.

I'd been looking at that Retro51 pen.  Didn't know that they came with stub nibs.

I've been out of the hobby so long I feel like a newbie. Can you tell me more about those beautiful pens?

If you don't care or mind that it is probably a Chinese-made knock-off (that nevertheless writes, but just forget guaranteed interchangeability of parts with other Lamy pens), then you can get this set for US$14.14 delivered (plus tax if applicable), which is less than what I paid for on account to higher shipping charges to Australia (and 10% GST added to the whole lot including shipping charges):

  • ink cartridge ×1
  • gift box ×1
  • user guide ×1
  • fountain pen ×1
  • felt pen sleeve ×1

The search term to use is: “LAMY Fountain Pen Limited Edition Cartoon Gift Box”.

Thank you for the information.  Very tempting. And that bear is so cute.

If you will PM me with your address, I'll send you a letter.

I just visited Jim Hinze and picked up these two pens:

These were my third Hinze pens.  The first one is reviewed here:

Another Diplomat Excellence A2, but not in the colourway of the pen that had been in my shopping cart for the past few days.

A Marlen Aleph with a flexible steel nib. I suspect I'll regret that one.

Which A2 did you get this time around? And as for the Marlen, it had quite a significant learning curve for me, but I've kinda got the hang of it now. ;)

The Evergreen with gold trim, fitted with a steel EF nib, is what I just bought. The Oxyd Iron is what has been sitting in my shopping cart.

Very nice! I have been tempted to get that color myself several times now. But I think I’m going to have to stop resisting another temptation soon and get the brand new bright yellow that’s apparently come/coming out this month.

LCdC used to offer (some) Diplomat pens at favourable prices that are unmatched, especially when coupled last year with the 15%-off brand-specific discounts for its FIFA Club World Cup themed promotions; but all of the prices went up earlier this year, not unreasonably insofar as just aligning with how Diplomat seems to be pricing its pens on the manufacturer's own website. I held off buying the Oxyd Brass and/or Oxyd Iron, even though I thought they were the ones I would like best, because they were also more expensive (on the old prices) than the rest by a fair amount. Ironically, now after the price adjustments, the increases in the Oxyd models' prices were very modest, and now they look very favourable compared to the marginally lower prices of the other colourways; but I'd already just bought an Oxyd Brass from Cult Pens on clearance (and I like it very much indeed, better even than my Diplomat Aero in orange) recently. So Oxyd Iron has been sitting in the cart while I was umming and ahing, while the Aussie dollar's recent rise against the Euro has seemingly reversed direction abruptly.

Then, not two hours ago, I saw the Evergreen GT version being offered on Easter/clearance special, bringing it down to even better pricing than if I'd ordered it last June(?). I'm not 100% certain I'd be happy with the (smooth lacquer) finish on this colourway, compared to the matt and textured Oxyd Brass/Iron, but given the price difference it was almost a no-brainer; and I know LCdC would only have one in stock that it's trying to clear out at that price (and, yes, that means it is ready to be dispatched!).

So, definitely impulsive.

Whereas I've looked at the Excellence A2 pen sets for the new red and yellow colourways, and frankly I wouldn't pick them (and take a chance with the finish) when the asking price — albeit with extra inclusions of ink and pen case — is higher than that of the Oxyd Iron.

I’ve also noticed the prices creeping higher of late (and not by inches!) but I am a bit of a sucker for bright colors 😃

Edit to add that I’m glad to hear you like the Oxyd Brass since it was all my fault :) It’s still one of my very favorite pens (out of 43 Diplomats and counting!)

Another week has passed by, and I've once again resisted all impulsive pen purchases.  Yes, I know -- boring!

I have managed that, a few times in the past couple of years. At present, I am waiting for 3 pens to arrive, but none of them qualify as impulsive.

I think I'm balancing out the fact that 2 years ago I was able to limit myself to what was effectively what BoBo Olsen calls "the Pen of the Month Club" but then last year bought something like twenty.  This year, I've only bought a couple of pens (plus a converter for another one), and have instead gotten four vintage pens repaired (with a fifth one now in the works).

Of course that may change as estate sales happen....

I like this concept, gives a clear picture in just a few words. I could try it 😄 . Thanks for sharing, @inkstainedruth
