What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

I have just agreed to buy a vintage Diplomat that I don't really need, together with a vintage Mercedes, which I had never even heard of before (the pen, not the car). Anyone know anything about old Mercedes pens? 😬 😅

I thought they were Mercedes penz.

I am visiting my sister in Dallas and we stopped by Hinze Pens.  I am suddenly the owner of a beautiful new pen made by Jim and the resin is Pheonix.

When I get home I'll do a full review.

Here is the description.

Elyce (#starrynightresins) has done it again. She was watching the live action Mulan movie with her Daughter (our chief polishing officer) and both were mesmerized with the ancestor spirt phoenix integrated in the movie. Natalie said we needed to do a phoenix pen.. so, we present our interpretation of the legendary bird of rebirth.

Starting with a little dark ashy color, hues of red, orange, green, blue, purple and ending in a vibrant indigo swirl up the barrel.  There are a total of 7 colors in this blank and separation is astounding.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Pen: London Pen Company Christopher 14 Brooks Abalone with juicy, broad nib.

Ink: Birmingham Pen Co. Victorian Plum

Paper: Apica

Yes, it was a bit impulsive, but it is a gorgeous pen and writes wonderfully well. It is a large pen, but well balanced.  Money well spent!

I just purchased a Visconti Rembrandt Master of the Arts Eclipse fountain pen with a dreaded F nib because it was the best price I found. I can swap it with another Rembrandt I own.

I saw it while browsing giardino it.  They did not have it in stock. Should have been the end to this. But no, I went searching last night and today. I found the one I bought at an Italian website I’ve never bought from because they had a 20% off code pop up. The website is forzieri.com

So, because I should not have bought it, I must make myself clean pens to earn this impulsive, ill-advised, economically questionable purchase

I like your style. Clean a few pens = no more guilt = enjoy the new pen! B)

Will work for pens...

I don’t like cleaning pens is the issue. There are so many waiting to be cleaned. Is there a decent way to clean many at once?

It depends on what the, um, minimum standard for ‘clean’ is for you. Soaking all the parts that need cleaning — gripping sections, with or without nibs and feeds attached, removable threaded (i.e. screw-in) nib units, converters with or without disassembly into basic components — in a bath of clean (to start off with) water inside the tank of an ultrasonic cleaner overnight, then running through a three-to-five-minute cleaning cycle, will do most of the ‘heavy lifting’ of cleaning those parts at once. You'll still need to flush each part, especially those that houses nib and feed together, with pressurised jets of water using a bulb syringe, or a syringe with blunt ‘needle’ or nozzle attachment, to get all the coloured liquid out; the vibrations from ultrasonic cleaning alone won't do it. For drying, a centrifugal device made out of a salad spinner can remove most of the water from the parts at once; but if you want them to be immediately ready for use without any risk of contaminating or diluting a new fill of ink, you'll need to brush and soak off the remnants with rolled-up absorbent material (such as a tiny strip of paper towel) from those parts individually.

In short, some of the cleaning steps can be done to (the parts of) multiple pens at once, i.e. in parallel, but some will have to be executed serially.

I've just inked them :) The KOP B nib is inked with Iroshizuku Take-Sumi and is a real gusher. The KOP Profit M nib is inked with Robert Oster Black Violet and writes like more like a a European fine, as one would expect. Both absolutely superb nibs. Completely delighted!

I tried to be impulsive three times this morning, for three different vintage Spanish-made Montblanc pens with striated barrels and caps (a 26 and two 42s), but I was waaay outbid on all three. Oh well, until next time.
