What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

I had a code for free shipping that I was itching to use and finally made up my mind... a white Kaweco Sport Skyline with a fine nib and a matching rollerball. All at outlet pricing.

The rb comes as a medium which I will need to change to a fine. Somehow. And make a little case for them so they can be my carry around pens. And ditch the ratty old Bic that's been in the bottom of my purse for years. 😎

Will work for pens...

A very minor finger slip. The TWSBI swipe in the pear green colour - couldn't resist the opportunity to get something spring-like!

If I hadn’t already gotten the Prussian blue version, the pear color would really tempt me.

I have a smoke one, and the Salmon (which is fun for orange inks) but the pear was just too pretty, and was on offer. I take the clips off, as I don't really like them and I don't use them anyway!

I haven't bought new pens for a while, but last week I slipped up 😆

I got a LAMY Al-Star.

I didn't need it as I alredy have two vistas, one safari and one LX, and they are kind of the same thing.

But I just loved the colour and justified it as being a "discrete" looking pen for university (I don't like people paying attention to me, and asking weird questions about pens, which is kind of hard with my flashy taste 😅). So I got the Lamy Azure in a local store. Also I justified it as being one of my last fountain pens for a while, because I recently lost the ability to shop online, and the selection in our town's only bookstore is very small.

I just received a Hero 616 in the post, and found a lovely robin’s egg blue Sailor Profit Kuragame entry level pen in the blister pack for $10 at my local art store. It’s missing the converter, but has the cartridges intact. I have  a feeling someone just bought it for the converter, because it’s uninked. I also bought a universal dip pen holder for my grandfather’s old Hemisphere nibs and a practice dip nib because I last used one over 30 years ago.

Top 5 of 19 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Salz Peter Pan 18k gold filled filligree fine flex, Waterman Serenity Blue

Pilot Silvern Dragon IB, Iroshizuku Kiri-Same

Thank you!

I particularly like that the green of the cap is a very pale, silvery grey green. Before seeing it in person, I wasn´t sure if it was green at all, but it is. I will have to test that pen this weekend. I just have to decide on an ink...

I recently purchased the rollerball(+ink) from Ferris Wheel Press. It's been 2 years since I bought a pen, three years since I bought ink(except my daily drivers). Scoff at me if you must about the rollerball option, but I wanted something new!

A friend of mine is looking for a refillable rollerball (refillable with fountainpen ink that is), so I would be very interested in how good those rollerballs are in terms of comfort and reliability.

It was a few days back, but I impulse-bought a battered Montblanc 242G, to understand how I like the nibs. It was under 50€, but required quite a bit of work to get running:

The pen itself is a mixed bag. I found the pen a bit too small and the cap not suitable for secure posting. On the positive side: I like the feel of the nib, and the nib itself has a wide range - EF through B, see Figure 1 (Figure 3 in the link, where you can see a couple more pics).

Figure 1. Nib with quite some range.

I'll see if I choose to try again on the 2xy series. Maybe a 256 or even a 264, which are larger but seem too expensive to just find out if they're good fits.

Corrected some typos. Maybe added some as well.

Yesterday I went for this Vanco Japanese button-filler on eBay. It was quite cheap at under $30 all in, and it needs a fair amount of work, I guess, but I couldn't pass it up. I imagine the cap is the original color, and the body is discolored, but I think even that looks good. Of course I don't have it yet, Maybe I'll be disappointed.

Yesterday I ordered a Pilot Enso set - the one with three Plumix with italic nibs in fine, medium and broad - with an estimated arrival date of April 20... I want to move the nibs into another Pilot model, maybe Preras, so that gives me time to decide and organise those.

Will work for pens...

I definitely will let you know how it feels/leave a review post when I get it!

Very nice pen, @Paul-in-SF. I'm looking forward to your further comments on it, after it arrives safe and sound.

Kaweco made one.  I have (had?) one that was really pretty handy.   I just need to find where I put it.
