Awesome! :yikes:

p.s. I am jealous. Your nib appears to write finer than my Naginata Concord nib, when in normal orientation (with beak pointing down).

Ok, this looks very intriguing.... I love the shading you're getting with the down side!

Thank you for your comparison!  Mine is very fine, but your penmanship is better.

Oh, this is some great ink!

This ink has some very pretty sheen. I am unable to capture it in photos.

@A Smug Dill what pen holds you Concord?

@essayfaire send me your address and name and I'll send you a letter with the ink.

A plain black Sailor Profit (aka 1911 Large) on which the nib was factory-fitted.

I bought a black Sailor Professional Gear Realo with gold trim, some years ago, with the intention of transplanting the Naginata Concord nib onto a pen with a larger ink reservoir. I never ended up doing it, as I just don't use my NK nib enough; it didn't deliver (even ‘Western’) EF line widths in normal orientation even when new, which makes it largely useless to me in everyday applications of putting pen to paper; and I wasn't really trying to learn to do Chinese calligraphy with a fountain pen at the time.

Actually, I was sorting through the piles of never-inked pens here only a few hours ago to make room, and came across that ProGear Realo — still factory-sealed in a plastic sleeve!

I suppose the Retro 51 Escape fountain pen I ordered was impulsive. So were all the bottles of ink (Cult Pens).

Now you get to go to the site again to track both pens. Or was there a third one waiting for you to visit?

Yes, Platinum has it, and so does Pilot.

@A Smug Dill: Very impressive that you have so many of these nib types! To me, it seems like having a painter's booklet with all the different brushes. Gets one in the mood to paint (write).

I happen to have exactly the Coarse, in a Platinum #3776C in Burgundy. I really like this nib, writes smoothly and crisply, and in this pen it starts well and does not skip. I use it to check completed items at the end of my work-day, so I must associate it with "job well done". I like what it can do with a rich ink, see Figure 1. I also keen the pen filled with Diamine Pumpkin, so perhaps it's also the bright orange color that gets me excited.

I associate it with a broad stroke, width-wise. Figure 2 depicts the actual measurements, when using the nib in normal position and in 180-degree reversed writing. I measured vertical strokes at 1 mm (let's call this BB) and horizontal strokes at 0.8 mm. When used in reverse, I get 0.5 mm (M) and 0.3 mm (F), respectively. In Figure 1 you can also see an example of using a Kaweco B nib (orange) and a few letters written with a Kaweco BB nib (blue-black); both Kaweco nibs produce significantly narrower strokes.

Figure 1. Writing example with the Platinum C nib. (Please ignore the quality of the writing; I know I can do better.)

Figure 2. Measurements of stroke widths with the Platinum C nib.

TL;DR: For the right application, I find this Coarse nib excellent and one of the few I have used constantly over time.

Or a bag of different golf clubs. ;) At one point I'd wanted to spend money acquiring at least one of each nib type from the Japanese Big Three fountain pen brands — with of course the B, BB, and C nibs being lowest in priority — but the special set of 19 Sailor nibs (each fitted into a separate gripping section, with a single Profit pen body supplied to serve as the handle) was just way too pricey. Then, of course, even just in the Sailor nibs with the 1911 imprint, there are three main (‘medium’, ‘large’, and ‘extra large’) sizes — not counting what's on the Chalana, which had been long discontinued when I became active in the hobby, and I've never seen one in the flesh — and the medium-sized nibs come in stainless steel, 14K gold, and 21K gold. So it became all too expansive (and expensive!) an endeavour, and I had to abandon it.

Thank you very much for taking the measurements and sharing!

I particularly like it that you use orange, not green, to signify “job well done”. :D It's so Dutch!

In 5 minutes a Lamy Nexx M with a black top. Bought it with an A (Anfänger = Beginner, which I am not...) nib.  A between Fine and Medium nib). A kind of the former MK nib from Lamy. I use it more than my Safari’s, Accent, Joy and Studio. Also more than mij Pelikan M200 and my Parker’s  M75 and M45 and Latitude. Because it is light and has a very, very nice grip. I can write for hours and hours. I can use all my Lamy nibs on it, although indeed mostly with the A nib which gives the best shades. Ok, it is cheap, it might be a schoolpen, it is not an impressive beauty, but it simply is my favorite fountainpen for long writings.

I went into Dymocks in town looking for significantly discounted (and most likely Robert Oster) ink, didn't find any, and came out with a Platinum #3776 Celluloid with a Medium nib😦  (No, I haven't inked it up yet, or the F-nibbed #3776 Celluloid ‘Calico’ I bought last year, for that matter.)

I didn't dare go there again on my way back from a run around the Sydney Opera House today.

Addiction? What addiction??

Part of my problem here is that the bookstore keeps their pens right next to the pretty notebooks (that I also swore I would not buy until I had used up all the ones I already have). But, in my defence, I was NOT lured into buying another notebook this time (at only about 20% of the price of the pen, but who's counting?)

A Sheaffer Triumph 444 (the pseudo-imperial series) that turned out to be from halfway around the world. Hopefully it's in as good a shape as it looked in the photos. I'll find out in a month.
