What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

I'll call this impulsive although I had plenty of time to think about it.

It started with a visit to Fountain Pen Hospital.  I intended to just get a taste and not buy anything.  Window shopping.  I really liked the Pelikan M205 Petrol Marble and Waterman Career Amber and a couple of used pens.  True to my pledge, I didn't buy anything.  However, the seed was planted.  I did some research on the web and discovered that although FPH charges $208 for the Pelikan, I could get it internationally for as little as $131.  I also saw that I could get a black M200 for a lot less.

I also saw that it seems almost everybody who has any Pelikans has an M200.

I found an eBay listing for an M200 Old Style W. German with an OB nib.  The seller was Wasupen, who has been recommended on this forum.  The auction price was $49.99.  The seller wrote that he could swap the nib for a Fine.  So, I bid and was the only and high bidder.

The pen arrived October 2 and, although I was initially delighted, I quickly became disappointed.  The pistonfiller feels jerky and the pen has trouble writing.  The feed and nib aren't properly aligned.  My travails are written about in the thread "Did I damage the Pelikan M200 nib?"

Right now I have to decide whether to return it or keep it and spend money getting it fixed or replacing the nib.

In my experience, quality of products and service is uneven. Sorry you are having problems.

Well, I was going to preorder the new Leonardo Momento Zero Grande in that limited edition Brooks material that looks like mother of pearl.

Waited a day too long and now they are sold out (from the vendor I had an EXCELLENT coupon code with). I'm not sure I should look around at other vendors...my procrastination saved me some serious money, LOL. What to do, what to do....

Yep, I'm not a pencil guy, but I saw this Duofold Jr. pencil and I just couldn't pass it up. It is in near-mint condition, works perfectly as well. Once it got here (after winning the auction) I felt I had to pair it with one of my Duo Jr. pens to make a set, and that started me thinking... So here you go, shot atop an advertisement from 1929 for the very same items.

Great buy. Really like what you did with your "impulse".

Sigh.

Not that I want to encourage you, considering your current moratorium, but here's a picture of the HongDian N1 in bright orange.

I broke my promise not to buy any more pens for at least a year, and ordered the piston-filler version of that pen just now. HongDian producing a piston-filler in a more conventional design that doesn't have a see-through barrel took me by surprise; and since it's that design, in that colour, at a price cheaper than the converter-filled version of the pen… I just have to give it a look-see.

You know who I'll blame, right? ☝️

If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Since I'm quite literally on the other side of the planet, I'd be more than happy to take the bulk of your wife's ire.  :)

And where can I find this blameless pen please?

Well, quasi-impulsive, anyway. I like all of my pens to have a specific purpose. I don't want to have too many pens sitting around uninked for a long time -- and I don't want to leave pens inked that I'm not using regularly, either.

When the Swipe came out, I bought one in Prussian Blue instead of an Eco in Transparent Blue that I had been planning on because I liked the color, opacity, and shape of the Swipe better.

And, not an actual purchase yet, but when the Narwhal Nautilus came out, I decided that if they come back in stock anytime soon, I'll buy one of them to be my dedicated brown ink pen instead of the Lamy LX I was planning on.

I like trying something different and am strongly thinking of learning to handle a flex nib in a more versatile fashion, by delving into some Spencarian script.  I purchased an Aurora Optima with the Flex nib option.  I can then have fun and compare with my Pilot Custom 912 FA.  I've never been one to have just one of a particular product type.  I tend to have several to experience the differences, subtle and otherwise.  Curiosity overcomes me......

I've got one of the new White and Red Lamy Safaris en route.

Somehow the "standard" Safari colors have never wowed me -- all of mine are basically SE or LE ones, and all with colored clips (Dark Lilac, Violet, the new-to-me French Blue, and now this one).  Getting this one with a black B nib, which might end up getting swapped out with the steel B nib on the Violet one.

I think I may be the only one who doesn't care for Safaris; I actually got multiple nibs to try out with the pen, but ended up giving it away. It just didn't suit my hand properly, and nib swaps don't change that.  I wish I liked using them as it would be fun to mix and match them in complementary colors - kind of like Pilot does with the Kakunos.

No, you're not.  I found them unimpressive too.

Not quite impulsive as I have been debating getting a Kaweco Skyline Sport for somewhere around five to seven years. The new Olive version finally pushed me to make the purchase. I am getting a medium nib ground to a right oblique. Though I have enjoyed a few different left obliques, I think a right oblique may be a bit better for how I generally hold a pen. Hopefully it will be making its way to me by the end of the week!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!<span style='color: #000080'>For Sale:</span> TBA

And even less sophisticated...

My impulsive Kaweco Perkeo 'Bad Taste' arrived - love it - and now I really really want a Cotton Candy to go with it.

Will work for pens...
