What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

I'm not sure I could ever really do an impulsive purchase given that I research everything to death; the closest I get would be pens or inks I'd long given up on but upon which I stumble by chance; the last one being a Parker advertised as an imperfect Vector but which didn't look like a Vector... Took a chance and it is indeed... A 105 that works perfectly, after lots and lots of patient cleaning.

Another recent one is a Bayard "Le 4", for which there isn't as much info as with other brands, so it was a bit of a gamble; turned out to be a lovely, quirky pen.

There used to be someone on here that collected Bayards and other French brand pens.  I don't remember what her name was.  And someone I talked to at a pen show a few years ago said that Bayard made some of the prettiest celluloids.

Have ordered a Sailor Profit Casual in black with a steel zoom nib. Peering at the picture I think it has gold coloured nib and trim, but not entirely sure because most of the text was in Chinese. I will be happy either way, I have wanted a zoom nib for a very long time so it's not really impulsive.

That honour goes to the Platinum Meteor in pale green that got into the cart too. 😁

Will work for pens...

Interesting looking paper holder you have there. It reminds me of the unusual one I had at one point in grammar school that held loose leaf paper that had holes at the top instead of at the side. Unfortunately, the teacher couldn't deal with non-uniformity, all other students used loose leaf paper that had the holes on the side, and I had to stop using it 😞 .

Mine is fairly new.  It’s an Exacompta FAF pad with refills in blank and dot grid, and  graph style.  It comes in 3 sizes. I got the middle size. The dot paper is new, and a look at Exacompta’s website did not show graph paper. The paper works well with fountain pens. I really like mine.

Pity you had to stop using your paper holder.  Maybe get one of these in a rebellious spirit.

Beautiful acquisitions. With the exception of the watch I might have bought everything you did. If you are willing to share, (even a PM is okay) what did you spend for the Esterbrook and the Montblanc? I have a number of Esterbrooks with the 9128 and the 9048 nibs and I am looking for a price range other than ebay. Any info will help me.

Thank you and congratulations on your really nice investments.

Recently renewed my relationship with a Namiki Falcon. Purchased here on FPGeeks. very happy with it so far. Originally it was a SM that was modified to an SF by Mike Masuyama long ago, It writes quite nicely and I am glad to have acquired it.

How do you fill the Seiko, or does it use cartridges? ;)

Wow, that's really nice. I love how "swirly" it is!

I finally had a moment to do some quick phone pix of the pen, mostly to show the lovely Buckeye Burl wood. it's like "Starry Night" captured in a tree. 😀 I can't remember the model, I *think* it is an L-14? Anyway, one of the Legend series, not the largest. M nib with Krusac logo:

Wow. That is jaw dropping. Love the different colors and patterns. You did VERY well snagging that one!!

These pens are so beautiful...it might be awhile before I buy another "swirly acrylic". The natural beauty of the wood is so much more stunning.

Ditto on the beauty of that pen.

How well does the wood stand up to moisture, hand oils and other ingredients over time? I may be looking at a very nice wooden pen soon and I don't know what to look for or even what to ask.

Definitely open to advice and insights.

Thank you.

According to Ryan Krusac, the pens that don't have a clear coat (mine does) will develop a patina over time. The oils from your hands aren't bad for the wood. He also told me you can do a very light coat of wax on them now and then to help them stay more like how they come new. There are different kinds he recommended but I can't recall their names now...

Hallmark offered a series of wooden ballpoints back in the 80's; I had 2, a dark, Hersey's cocoa color and a lighter, yellow-ish one. The darker one didn't fare too badly but the lighter one darkened noticeably.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.
