You may just enjoy the process...

I enjoy the idea of having a library of information to which I can refer, and being able to ‘contribute’ something derived from first-hand observations to discussions (most likely to refute someone else's assertion, or at least offer a contrasting data point) when it suits me; it's akin to building personal capability, when I have nothing better to do these days.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I know the feeling. Even though I work full time, I am just BORED....with life. In general.

Come to think of it...that boredom is probably what's driven me deeper into this hobby and pushed me to spend a bunch of money on new pens, inks and paper. Looking for something to do...

Why I keep wasting money on finding answers to such pointless questions (since I'll already have both pen models, and multiple units of each at that), I have no idea. It's not like a lot of friends in my social circle ask me for an opinion or to borrow from my library to try pens out for themselves; they're just not into fountain pens.

You do have a social network here with which you can not only share/discuss your experiences, but also take part on offering advice.  You make an important member of this community through your efforts. :notworthy1:

@sirgilbert357 I personally have a constantly burning curiosity and desire for new experience.  This has not only had me going to various places, reading a lot and developing professionally, but it also ends up in hobbies…. computing, sports, photography and fountain pens. I think this is all normal. It’s just a matter of what interests you and how much you are willing able to invest in the interest.  It’s a win win when you are able to get returns on your interest so that it pays for itself and more,  but it’s different when your interest leads to a lot of spending without returns.

Sounds like you're in that rut...where everything is routine, nothing is exciting...
What's funny is...as children we're taught to believe that this...is success. Where everything is predictable, smooth-flowing and pretty much...boring.
While being financially well to do and having checked-off all the check-boxes to life makes for an admirable existence...without the excitement of challenges and exploration, life doesn't feel....alive.
It feels like just existing...
I think the challenge that Fountain Pens offer gives us that "NEW" feeling in our mundane lives (mine...maybe not yours..I'm soooo boring) that makes us feel alive.
Some seek out dangerous activities like side-relationships, car-racing, recreational drugs, online prostitution, bar-fights or road rage....
While others like us seek out new and different types of Fountain Pens, Fountain Pen Inks and Nibs as well as Fountain Pen Friendly Paper!
We may be in the "Rut" of life...but I think we're handling it a lot better than others out there in the world...

Whew...I just deleted three paragraphs. Uh, didn't want to derail the thread. I'll just say I'm depressed about a lot of stuff right now. Even buying a new pen -- at this moment -- doesn't bring any real happiness. Believe me, I still enjoy them, a lot. But its "empty" enjoyment...if that makes any sense. Like a donut is empty calories for the nutrition of your body.

Continuing with the spirit of the thread:

After more than a month, I have received my Visconti Medici Rose Savrano back from the vendor. I bought this pen, specified how I wanted it tuned, received it and it went dry every three lines of writing. I contacted the vendor and described the issue and said "...and actually, since it is going back for this issue, lets just also swap the nib to a broad instead of a medium." They were happy to do so. It took a month though. Ridiculous, but I won't go there...

I get the pen back, and....its a yellow gold nib. The pen is all rose gold trim and is supposed to have a rose gold nib. I reached out to express that this isn't the correct nib and ask how we can resolve this. That was a week ago and I still haven't heard back.

Is it wrong of me to want the right trim color on my nib? Should I just throw up my hands and say "forget it!!" and just keep it as is? On the plus side, the nib writes amazingly. If they could get the rose gold nib to write just like this one (and they DO tune nibs as a service, so they should be able to), I would want it swapped. But I don't want to wait another month. And then, if it comes back with the right nib, but it doesn't write as well as this one, I'll be even MORE disappointed....sigh.

Not if you specified it, and not if it's implicitly understood because of the product's specifications. It makes no sense for a retailer/vendor to swap a silver-coloured Z53 nib (shaped for the Aion) onto my Lamy Studio Lx All Black that comes factory-fitted with a black PVD-coated Z52 nib, if I ask for a nib swap just to change the width grade.

All I asked for was a swap from the medium to broad. I never would have expected a different trim color nib to be substituted. It clashes horribly...I assume it was an accident, but I don't know how the person doing the swap didn't stop and think "Wait a minute, this doesn't look right..." And now I see the rose gold colored broad nibs are on backorder on their website. Who knows if/when this will get resolved. I'd just appreciate a response to my email at this point. As long as I can write with the pen in the meantime I'm fine waiting, but communication is key when your customer isn't happy...

I’m curious if there is a supply shortage?

I'm guessing there is...likely Covid related (isn't everything?). I don't know if the new gold Visconti nibs are being made in house or not, but there could be raw materials shortages that slow their production of nibs...

Is that happening this year?  We may have to go up to Massachusetts to help with clearing out my late mother-in-law's house a couple of times in the late summer and early fall, so it can get put on the market.  And there's a hard date for the Commonwealth Show I might be able to help pick the weekend we drive up there.... ;)

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

Hi Ruth,

As of the current moment the answer is YES, we are scheduled for the 12th of September, same place and time. I will be there at my table with some new goodies. Feel free to PM me with any special requests or interests. Lots of ink and paper too.

See you there. Do you want me to bring some lobsters too? :-))

Tempted, but think I'll pass on the lobsters -- I'd have to get them home and it's a 12 drive back to Pittsburgh....

I got beat over the head by people with good intentions until I lost my common sense.

Pelikan Petrol....in B.....................and I hope I hate the rest of the new 200's.....in I got so many 200's........5-6 new ones, 4-5 semi-vintage not counting a 250.

Not something I was looking for, but this nice Pelikan 100N popped on another board and it wasn't a tough decision.

Stumbled over Penbbs Etsy store and saw they had a few 308 models in "Hawaii" gradient back in stock...

I really liked that color scheme when i first saw in some time ago but every pen in that color was sold out at that time - so my finger clicked "buy".

now it is waiting time...

It may be an ebonite Ranga 3 c/c that I received discount information on recently.  I previously had a 3C eye dropper that I didn't get on with.  Nothing wrong with the pen it just held too much ink so that I didn't get through quick enough.  If I didn't fill it full enough it would burp.  I should have just used it more.  I may just wait to see if the 3 C rolls around on discount though as I prefer the round ends.

Mine was also a PenBBS purchase... happened to open their Etsy right after the recent 355 release, and snagged an Amber one before they sold out, as well as a clear one and one in the "moon river" material. Very excited!

Stumbled on this Namisu Nova while looking for other things;

Shiny, check. Red, check. M ... ok, I guess, seeing it's the last one. Thinking it might be nice for the Golden Beryl.

Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with Posting nib. Since I’ve been working from home — which really means I’m living with work — I’ve had to use lots of low quality paper and this nib was supposedly created to work with such paper.
