What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

Stopped myself from buying any of the Aurora Optima pens in spite of the awesome discounted prices. I looked at the several I had in the display box, and had to ask myself, when was the last time I actually wrote with any of them for pleasure, other than to assuage the guilt of having spent money amassing these beautiful-looking pens?

However, I did order a Kaigelu 356, as well as the blue and the brown Kaco Edge models (in spite of their not being available only with F nibs and not EF nibs; and the EF nib on the black model was terribly disappointing by being to fining broad).

Similar to this, I always ask myself "But will I write with it??" before I buy a new pen. It has halted MANY a purchase and saved me a lot of money. I've been on quite a buying kick lately, though and I'm now at 19 pens, with a couple things in mind if I see a good deal at the upcoming Dallas Pen Show (I have always wanted a Sheaffer snorkel of some sort, despite vintage not really being "my thing"). So far, I only regret one purchase out of the last 7...

One more impulse late yesterday:

TWSBI Vac Mini (B)

Why? I couldn't tell you. I just suddenly wanted one.

The very definition of impulse buy.

Truth.

I can't say I have never wanted a TWSBI Vac Mini. But I certainly haven't been wanting one lately, until the day I thought it up and ordered it within about a 15-min period.

Call it an inspired decision.  An intuitive decision... likely a good one.  Have fun.

Temptation, temptation, damned temptation.

A discussion elsewhere motivated me to look at the current Onoto website ( Onoto Fountain Pens | Luxury, Handcrafted, British Fountain Pens | Onoto ).  That was my first mistake.  My second mistake was to actually peruse the offerings.  This was followed by seeling, lusting for, submittng to temptation, and purchasing a chased black Magna Classic.  I refuse to call it a mistake.

Now the question is, what to ink it with once it arrives?  Suggestions are requested with the proviso that I have a strong -- nay, compelling -- preference for Diamine and Blackbird inks.  Then too there is the logic of British pen; British ink.  The pen:

Of course it's not a mistake!!

I believe the Onoto inks are made by Diamine.

As are the Conway Stewart inks.  Their selection is limited.

Great choice.  I almost caved in myself but have my sight on something else.  I expect that you should enjoy it very much.

Just ordered a Sailor 1911L Key Lime (F).

What makes this one impulse is not that I have not wanted this color. It's been on my 1911 wantlist. (Tangerine, 4am, Pirate's, and maybe Fresca were all ahead, though)

The "impulse" comes in because I saw yesterday on a few shops that this color is "discontinued". FOMO took over. . .

FOMO got me on some journals today. I realized on Sunday I only had like 5 pages left in my LAST journal. So, I needed more, but I kind of went overboard and bought 8...with 4 of them being Tomoe River paper. Might as well get that TR 68 gsm paper while we still can, right?

Right?

I keep meaning to go on amazon and order a couple more of "The Author" journals, which have TR paper in them. I really enjoyed the one I received as a reddit secret santa gift last year. At $30 a piece, though. . .

Oof. Yeah, I saw those and considered them. But I ended up with 4 of the A5 sized Endless Recorder journals with lined pages. Still not cheap at 23 bucks each. I might just save them and see what prices go to on Tomoe River, LOL. Maybe I can retire on them in a few years. The other 4 I ordered were the plainer A5 sized Rhodia Webnotebooks. Those were a little less at about 18 bucks each.

No pens today, but I ALMOST scored a (leaky) bottle of Akkerman Delfts Blauw (on sale at Anderson Pens because it wasn't full due to some shipping mishap).  Apparently just wasn't fast enough.... :crybaby:

I consoled myself with a package of Tomoe River paper (white, B5 size, and a replacement converter for the French Blue Safari (although the converter wasn't an impulse purchase).

The order of ink samples from Vanness was less impulsive once I weeded out the "maybe" inks from my shopping cart....

As for impulse buying, I am R-E-S-T-R-A-I-N-I-N-G (that symbolizes the effort being exerted to restrain myself) myself until I see what comes up for sale this weekend for the Fourth of July holiday sales.

Also showing some restraint so that I can indulge myself at the Commonwealth Pen Show (local) in September! Yeah, if I make it that long... LOL.

I could score a stainless steel Lamy 2000 for 223.00 in an upcoming pre-order 4th of July sale, but I too am restraining myself.

Is that happening this year?  We may have to go up to Massachusetts to help with clearing out my late mother-in-law's house a couple of times in the late summer and early fall, so it can get put on the market.  And there's a hard date for the Commonwealth Show I might be able to help pick the weekend we drive up there.... ;)

A couple of Faber-Castell Loom fountain pens, just so I can decide for myself which is the better (beginner? entry-level?) fountain pen model between that and the Faber-Castell Essentio Aluminium.

Why I keep wasting money on finding answers to such pointless questions (since I'll already have both pen models, and multiple units of each at that), I have no idea. It's not like a lot of friends in my social circle ask me for an opinion or to borrow from my library to try pens out for themselves; they're just not into fountain pens.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

It's probably not the question itself that drives it. You may just enjoy the process...
