Mine is buttery smooth once it starts. I love how it writes, just hate the hard start. All my other Pilots are perfect but I just realised I've had no response fro Pilot (Australia) customer service. So I'm glad the other pens are all fine.

Finally got a response to my email after about 12 days. I have to send the pen to Pilot in Sydney and they'll send it to Japan as they don't do anything here. Minimum turnaround is 8 weeks. All costs borne by me, no guarantee it'll be sorted despite it being like that "out of the box". I've decided it's not worth it and I'll just use it at my desk in my holiday home (as I won't need to carry it around there) where I can ensure I have some water on the desk to deal with hard starts. This experience has made me grateful that all my other Pilots (10+) are perfect and that I don't need/want anymore.

IME Pilot Japan will charge at least for the handling costs if not for product repair/service (if bought within 1 year), usually they give a quote after receiving the product. I think going through Pilot AUS will add up its own handling charges too.

Feel your idea of using the Elite as a deskpen is better at the moment.

I try to write 95S borrowed from my friend. Although its nib is EF but i think it is still very good for writing. I love it but i have Pilot Eilite ( old version) with 18k. I don't want to buy more....

I have to admit i was worried when i first saw this pen. Looked so tiny and puny that i figured i would get lost on my rather large hands. But i've grown to love this pen, it might very well be my "relative" favorite from my modest collection, which include pens that receive much more attention, or are substantially more expensive. This pen is the only pen i MUST carry with me at all times; it replaced my vanishing point as my swiss army knife of pens. Because it won't fit a "real" converter i always use it with cartridges, and because i only use cartridges i always use black ink, which compliments the EF nib i choose by making this pen the perfect all day carry to fill up documents, formularies or take quick notes without worrying that my ink choice will not be professional enough or that my nib is too large and make a mass of the tiny space available in the formulary that was printed in the cheapest paper available.

The nib is just short of a namiki falcon in terms of "springiness" but my e95s is actually a better writer than my EF Namiki falcon. It has a very pleasant feedback, and has zero scratchiness. Its the best compromise between something sensible and useful like a platinum preppy but with all the "serious deal" nib of a namiki falcon or better while still being very elegant.

I love this nib, I don't know if these nibs are consistent from factory but i swear i like this nib more than my custom made gold needle point by nib meister Masuyama from a franklin christoph pen; a nib that by itself cost more than pilot e95s!

My Elite is my SECOND "go-to" pen.....behind my Lamy Studio.....

It WOULD be #1....my only issue is: I find the Elite easier to use UNPOSTED.....thus, I need a place to "store" the cap ...

The cap has, on couple of occasions, "grown legs"!! I nearly lost it while using the pen just TWO DAYS after I bought it!! :yikes:

So.....the Elite now spends its time on my writing desk.....the Studio gets to "see the world"!!!! ;)

Agree with onetwothree on the FANTASTIC quality of the Elite EF nib!!! It performs better for me than the custom job in my Edison Herald!!

Always try to get the dibs....on fountain pens with EF nibs!!

Can anyone compare the E95's section to a Lamy 2000's. The section on the Lamy 2000 seems to give me some discomfort every once in a while when my hand seems to slip downward after extensive writing.

Please let me know how much did it cost?

If you're referring to the Elite...I paid ~$US140 from JetPens......

You could save $$$ buying direct from a Japanese vendor.....

If Pilot Elite 95S would come in rhodium finish it would be my grail pen...

I have two Pilot Elite pens. One is burgundy 95S and the other is NOS Elite sold by Speerbob. I think the latter is Korean version. Both are very good pens.

This is very light but durable, perfectly balanced pen. The nib on 95 is absolutely wonderful. I can use it for hours without any strain. One of the top 5 writing instruments of all time IMO.

I just purchased this pen at a bricks and mortar store last week. I was worried the nib would be too fine (I bought a F) but after using it all weekend, I'm no longer worried. The nib is lovely - smooth and a little bouncy. Line variation is possible, but not extreme. I'm very happy with my new pen!

Congratulations  , enjoy your pen!!

had the same experience with the Elite95S, their nibs seem run a tad thicker than usual pilot nibs of the same width..

It is nothing like the 2000. I have both, metal section usually bother me (especially on the Lamy) but I have no problems on the Pilot. I believe it is due to the matte finish on the E95.

Hope this helps.
