Lamy 2000....no Window. And The Ears...

I was concerned about the "prongs" as well, but in use I hardly notice them. I would not let the "prongs" affect your decision too much.

I would also add a +1 to Randall6393's suggestion to try a Lamy Studio. I was stunned at how different it felt from the Safari even though both used the same steel nibs. I did choose the brushed chrome version with the black (rubbery?) grip as I was concerned about the potential for slipping on the chrome grip of other Studios.

You can take the pen apart and remove the clutch ring completely. That way it can be re-installed at a later date should you so desire. Then you won't have to worry about damage from sanding.

The cap still stays on without it but it lacks that satisfying click.

I was wondering why the ring was on the pen in the first place. You answered that question. Thanx

Ok, so......am about to try to take it apart, and the joint where the ears are us *very* stiff....Im scared to twist too hard, for fear of doing damage : ok to proceed? Usually when I can't grip something to open....a bottle, or jar, for example....I put on rubber gloves, as this grips well and gives a bit of 'purchase'....

Ok, looking at Lamy studios.....specifically, the platinum super smooth shiny one: not necessarily what I would want to get anyway, but this really piqued my curiosity: the difference in price.

I'm not talking about eBay in far off lands - Im talking about real, good, online places, where I shop regularly. A couple of quid here or there, that I'd expect; but one is £239.95, and one is £42......exactly same model. I looked, checked, and double checked.....

A mistake? Or what? Any ideas?

Good grief, as Snoopy might say.....

£40 gets the basic steel nibbed version. £130 gets a 14k gold nib in a couple of finishes. Then there is the platinum coated one which is very expensive.

I have the stainless one with rubberised grip and medium nib. I find the styling just a little clumsy; it lacks the elegant balance of the 2000. But for £40 it is a fantastic pen.
