Mont Blanc 342 Gripping Section Stuck

Hi!

 

I'm quite new to collecting pens, but trying to learn as much as I can. I've recently inherited a couple Mont Blanc fountain pens, and I'm having some issues with one of them - a 342.

 

It's been working just fine for the last 6 months, but recently when I tried to unscrew the cap, the gripping section stayed in the cap, while the body came out - leaving the reservoir open. Since then I haven't been able get the front bit out of the cap.

 

Is there any way of doing this yourself, or do I have to hand it in to professionals?

I will bump this, because the exact same thing happened to me today.

I would say try soaking the cap in soap/water first, then with some silicone nose pliers try pulling out the section by gripping the feed. If this this doesnt work even after a day or two of soaking then I would use dry heat on the cap to help expand it just a little (but this must be done carefully) and the pull.

Absent those silicon needle nose pliers, would pliers with a rubber mat be safe enough?

 

Is there anything in the cap that could rust with that much soaking?

Sure anyway to pull safely will do. Just be gentle and patient. I dont think the section or cap will damaged by the soaking. Not by a few hours or a day, IMHO

Of course since the section is screwed in the tap, you have not to simply pull, but you have to rotate and pull simultaneously (probably you already know this, but in these cases redundancy is better).
