2. Bloodcrusts, this name will most likely not be a good selling point, and the picture on the label can't look as exciting as other labels by de Atramentis.

YES! Call it "Scab"! That would have my vote.

This color reminds me of two things:

1. Lucanus maculifemoratus taiwanus (female), could be nice to have an insect series anyway, and;

2. Bloodcrusts, this name will most likely not be a good selling point, and the picture on the label can't look as exciting as other labels by de Atramentis.

Please tell me about the Lucanus thing

Please tell me about the Lucanus thing

The Lucanus maculifemoratus taiwanus is the Taiwanese Stag beetle. The have all kinds of interesting colors, and some also nice sheen. For reference and inspiration, please peek at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stag_beetle

Based on the popularity of the insect series of the (Sailor) Kingdome Note series, I thought it would be a nice idea to have more insect inspired inks in the fountainpen world.

A collector of inks, currently doing my own ink challenge.

Nice :excl:

Guess that looks and tastes better than baby poop

Well, depends - if you were a Stag Beetle, the latter might be preferable to the former. :lticaptd:

Last night I had a wonderful, malty Ocktoberfest beer. If the deadline is October (or even it it isn't), perhaps Oktoberfest might be a great name.

Moonlit Canyon

Have you ever spent a night in a secluded canyon, far away from the noise and hustle of the city? All you hear is the far off wail of a lone coyote. The air is crisp and clean. The canyon is shrouded in bluish darkness. Then, the moon rises in the distance. The colors of the surrounding landscape warm every so slightly to include shaded version of earth tones, ranging from very dark earthy browns and warm greys, subdued red, almost purple overtones and rich, warm caramels. Yes, it was worth the wait to see the beautiful transformation by the the light of a Moonlit Canyon.

Looks like that variation of Mahogany that's a deep rich brown with a hint of reddish purple.

Mahogany

Mahogany Plum or Plum Mahogany

When they were younger, my children would return home from their grandparents home in the country. Their hands would be stained this same color, as well as their clothing, tongues and lips. The Mulberry tree would leave it's indelible mark, and I would smile. This color brings back some fond memories.

BoyBacon...you sent me scurrying off to Wikipedia to research Mulberry Trees. Apparently there are three varieties...White, found in Eastern Asia and Europe, Black, found in Western Asia and Europe and Red, found on east coast of America.

How about DeAtrementis American Mulberry or Atlantic Mulberry? You really are pretty spot on with the color (photos attached).

The color does indeed look like the mulberry we find in Europe...

I would suggest two names :

Black Orchid (it looks a bit like a blacker version of Orchids)

Damson (another fruit reference, Mulberry being proposed already ! )

OH, we actually ave mulberry trees in Las Vegas. They are beautiful and tasty. They are similar to what you see above, but also have some black. Oh, my now, I'm hungry.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

We had a mulberry tree in our front yard in Arizona. It was the only one in the whole neighborhood that produced fruit. Stained the sidewalk purple every year.

It's been a fun contest.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
