New Ink Review Diamine Shimmertastic Red Lustre

Recommended Posts

Following on from my thread announcing the launch of Diamine Shimmertastic inks I am happy to post my reviews of them.

This one is Red Lustre. This ink is bright red with a great gold sheen

My reviews show you my experiences with these inks in several of my pens. I’ve experimented by having these inks in my pens for weeks, and have intermittently written with them to see how they start, and how they write. I must say I’m pleasantly surprised. I’ve experienced no feathering with any of them, and they have all behaved really well for me.

Diamine recommend that you gently agitate the bottle to mix the particles through the ink before filling your pen. They also recommend that you gently agitate your pen to mix the particles with the ink in your pen when starting a new writing session.

I recommend good FP maintenance when using ink that contains particles. I suggest you clean your pens out a little more frequently than you might do with normal ink.

These inks will come in 50ml glass bottles, and they have either gold or silver particles in them.

I had high hopes for this red but it looks too pale and pinky for my taste.

If it is anything like Red Dragon as Chrissy says, then it is not pale at all. Maybe the scanner picks up the highlights?

These are inks I'd like to see in person.

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

I have to apologise for my scans. I'm using a new iMac with my HP all in one printer, and it scans the paper as this weird pinky yellow shade when it's actually white paper. I therefore have to use the 'magic wand' in Photoshop, to change the background to white so it doesn't look weird.

I've tried hard to make all of the scanned ink colours match as close as possible, but didn't adjust the photos in any way as I haven't had that much time available. I think Red Lustre looks like the scan, but has the shine shown in the photos.

The first samples I saw of Red Lustre and Purple Pazzazz only arrived with me on Tuesday afternoon, and they were very small samples. I wasn't able to see what they were like after being in my pens for a while. If you like Red Dragon, I think you will like Red Lustre as they are very similar inks.

I will try and add more images, but I'm going away on holiday on Sunday and have to prepare.

Thanks for the review :).

Thanks also for respecting Diamine's wishes and hanging on until today.

Thank you. You're welcome. I took Diamine at their word - Well I started preparing at about 23.25 last night over on the 'other forum' and went to bed at 01.00 when I had managed to post all 10 reviews. FPN had to wait until I woke up again. LOL

I wonder how this compares to J. Herbin Rouge Hematite. It looks pinker, whereas RH is more orange leaning.

Thanks for this review. As said above, I think I could only be really convinced about its wealth if I myself wrote with it on a piece of paper in front of my own eyes. This screen stuff doesn't lure me at the moment (no harm meant as re scanners and so forth....

Thanks for the review.

This is another one for the "maybe" pile....

Hmmm, it's so hard to tell the true colour from the scans/monitor combinations. I'm not sure about this one. I LOVE Red Dragon, so maybe I'll just order this one on a whim and see how I enjoy it in person :) Thanks, Chrissy!! :)

This is the million-dollar question. Has anyone compared the two?

I LOVE Rouge Hematite, but I find the gold shimmer only lasts for the first few words.
