New Ink Review Diamine Shimmertastic Magical Forest

Recommended Posts

Following on from my thread announcing the launch of Diamine Shimmertastic inks I am happy to post my reviews of them.

This one is Magical Forest. This ink is emerald green ink with a great silver sheen

My reviews show you my experiences with these inks in several of my pens. I’ve experimented by having these inks in my pens for weeks, and have intermittently written with them to see how they start, and how they write. I must say I’m pleasantly surprised. I’ve experienced no feathering with any of them, and they have all behaved really well for me.

Diamine recommend that you gently agitate the bottle to mix the particles through the ink before filling your pen. They also recommend that you gently agitate your pen to mix the particles with the ink in your pen when starting a new writing session.

I recommend good FP maintenance when using ink that contains particles. I suggest you clean your pens out a little more frequently than you might do with normal ink.

These inks will come in 50ml glass bottles, and they have either gold or silver particles in them.

Hi Chrissy, thank you for this review - what fun it has been! I am really interested in your rendition of Chivor, is it really that blue? If so, I have to put my wallet back in my pocket.

Interesting colour. When I first heard of the Herbin E of C, I was imagining it to be this colour of green. I think I would have preferred to see this one have gold shimmer in it, but it is still pretty. Not sure if I will pick this one up. Thank you so much for doing all of these awesome reviews :)

I purchased this ink just because I had to experience a shimmer ink too.

A gentle shake before filling in a convertor pen meant nearly no shimmer at all.

Giving the bottle a vigorous half minute shake produced a beautiful, regular shimmer.

Long attractive bottle, nice cap with an eye-catching label. So unlike other boring regular Diamines.

Sorry Bhavna I completely missed this question. My Chivor is quite blue. I also used it in my review of Diamine Arctic Blue

Sadly, Chivor is at the bottom on the slightly darker portion of the photo. But it does still look blue.

😂😂 Better late then never. I'm glad that I didn't get a reply, I ordered a bottle and then a couple more. I just cannot get enough of it, such a beautiful ink!! However, I fear it may be usurped by Diamine Golden Ivy, that has been magical to use! As has the Arctic Blue and Spearmint Diva from the 2017 set we have had the pleasure of reviewing!!

Chivor is one of the most spectacular inks ever made. Don't even think about not buying it.

It's blue-green, red, gold, and damn-near everything in between.

I've got this and it just doesn't get much use. I just don't think it's a great writing ink (for me, particularly since I use superfine nibs for the most part and all my flexy stuff is vintage and will never, EVER see a shimmer ink) It's fun to sketch with though.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Hello! I couldn't agree more, it is incredibly and I confess to owning more than 1 bottle... I just love it! It is permanently loaded in my Noodlers Emeralds of the Sun Neponset and I write with it at every given opportunity. I can imagine why you wouldn't let it near your vintage pens however, it does need to go into something that can be fully stripped and washed out. I haven't tried it in a fine pen yet, I will consider it, it will be interesting to see what happens.

I've got Emerald of Chivor *and* Magical Forest, and enjoy them both. EoC is definitely the more spectacular ink, but I also really enjoy the 'purer' green of Magical Forest, and find it works pretty well (lots of glitter, no clogging) in the TWSBI Eco and in my Vanishing Point (both with B nibs).
