Black - Noodler's bulletproof black, but only in a F nib.

Grey - Noodler's Lexington Grey (or Gray). Wonderful stuff! 3ml per week taking notes at work with this ink.

Brown - Noodler's Beaver Brown

Blue - De Atramentis Colmbin (Pigeon) Blue

Green - Rohrer & Klingman Old Golden Green - I really enjoy this color! Like a jar of green olives.

Orange - De Atramentis Jasmine

Pink - Noodler's Shah's Rose

Purple - Noodler's Saguaro Wine (for me) and J. Herbin Larmes De Cassis (for my wife)

Red - Diamine Wild Strawberry

Turquoise - Noodler's Navajo Turquoise

Workhorse Inks - Noodler's Air Corp Blue Black and Noodler's Lexington Grey. I use those at work with F nibs (Lamy & Edison pens), and the work great. I go through about 3ml of ink a week taking notes. As backup inks for work, I also have Bad Blue Heron and Bad Belted Kingfisher inks, which I like (just not as much).

I can't resist doing this.

Black - Aurora Black, my new favourite

Grey - DeAtrementis Fog Grey (I have to admit it's my only grey, so an easy pick)

Brown - pass, I guess I haven't found a brown that rings my chimes yet

Blue - Diamine Prussian Blue

Green - Diamine Woodland Green.

Orange - pass, I've tried a few samples but nothing really spoke to me

Pink - J. Herbin Rose D'Antan

Purple - Private Reserve Ebony Purple -this is a tough one, I have several purple inks I like a lot

Red - J. Herbin Rouge Opera

Turquoise - Tsuki-yo, it's the closest to turquoise I'll go

Hm, I think I'd need a bigger RV. Thanks for inviting us to play!

I much prefer Davros' list, but I'll play along and do the original one first ;)

Black: Aurora Black

Blue: Diamine Sargasso Sea (if there's a sink to deal with the mess - if not, Diamine Midnight)

Purple: Private Reserve Purple Mojo

Green: Rohrer & Klingner Smaragdgrun

Turquoise: Private Reserve Blue Suede (It's not turquoise, but I couldn't be without it, so I'm making it count.)

Brown: Diamine Chocolate Brown

Orange: Private Reserve Shoreline Gold

Red/Pink/Burgundy: I can't choose, and you can't make me! :P

Davros' much better list:

Black: Aurora Black
Blue: Diamine Sargasso Sea
Purple: Private Reserve Purple Mojo
Green: R&K Smaragdgrun
Turquoise: Diamine Havasu Turquoise
Teal: Private Reserve Blue Suede
Brown: J. Herbin Lie de The
Gold:Private Reserve Shoreline Gold
Orange: Noodler's Apache Sunset
Red: Diamine Red Dragon
Pink: R&K Solferino
Red Violet: Iroshizuku Yama Budo
Blue violet: Diamine Midnight
Burgundy: Sailor Grenade

And assuming I can fit one more in while no-one's looking: Noodler's Saguaro Wine :ninja:

Pink - I adore pink. I use pink a lot - especially in signatures. I have a digital signature in Cap Cod Cranberry for the sole purpose of emailed letters.

The problem is Pink isn't a single color.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Purple - R&K Scabiosa

Green - Edelstein Aventurine

Red - Diamine Red Dragon

Grey - Mont Blanc 90th Permanent Grey

Hmm. I kinda think I like Davros' categories too.

But to play the game (and again, this is today's list; tomorrow's list might be totally different), here's the basic list....

Black: Noodler's Heart of Darkness

Blue: Noodler's Manhattan Blue

Purple: vintage Quink Violet

Green: Diamine Emerald

Turquoise: vintage Skrip Peacock

Brown: Iroshihzuku Yama-guri

Orange: none; okay, original formula J Herbin Rouge Hematite

Red/Pink/Burgundy: Akkerman #19 Rood Haags Pluche

I would have to add Blue-Black to the list: KWZI #24 IGl Blue Black.

And grey: De Atramentis Tchaikowsky/Silver Grey.

And split/expand a couple of categories:

Purple gets divided, adding:
red-violet -- KWZI #30 IG Violet #3

blue-violet -- Noodler's Kung Te Cheng

Pink and Burgundy get their own categories:

pink -- De Atramentis Apple Blossom

burgundy -- De Atramentis Red Roses (looks darker than pinjk when coming out of fine nibs)

Mind you -- these lists could all change radically in a week or so....

Cool topic! Here's what I would take:

Black: Noodler's Black

Blue: Pass (would take Kon-Peki listed under Turquoise below, and another green instead)

Purple: Diamine Majestic Purple

Green: Diamine Sherwood Green and Sailor Kobe #28 Suzuran Green

Turquoise: Iroshizuku Kon-Peki

Brown: Diamine Ancicent Copper

Orange: Diamine Orange

Red/Pink/Burgundy: Sailor Jentle Grenade

I am about to leave my humble dwelling and embark on a cross country journey in my RV (motorhome) and will be gone for several months. I have spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out which pens and ink I am going to take. I can't take it all as I have very limited space. I have pretty much figured out which pens, but now I have to determine which inks.

I think I have decided that I will take 7 bottles of ink with me, and no samples. Since I like variety, I am considering my favorites in each of the color categories:

Black: None - not a big black fan

Blue: Sailor Nioi-sumire (actually this is more of a periwinkle), or Waterman Serenity Blue

Purple: Rohrer & Klingner Cassia, or DeAtramentis Pearl Violet

Green: Rohrer & Klingner Verdura

Turquoise: Waterman South Seas (i.e Waterman Inspired Blue)

Brown: Waterman Absolute Brown

Orange: Noodler's Apache Sunset or Diamine Autumn Oak

Red/Pink/Burgundy: Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Bordeaux or Caran d'Ache Divine Pink

If you had to choose just one ink in each of the color caterories above, which one would it be?

Okay, I've avoided this topic, but like Vis, I love these kinds of things.

Here are Amber's Favorites:

Black - Organic Studios Charles Darwin. Seriously black and fast drying.

http://sheismylawyer.com/She_Thinks_In_Ink/Colors/Black/OS_Darwin.jpg

Blue - Okay, I wouldn't want to take just one blue ink, especially since I will be using this for mixing, because 7 inks is boring. So, I'm thinking Navajo Turquoise (see the Noodler's Inkyman Sapphire Recipe), and KWZI #4 Blue. Oh wait, Turquoise is it's own category!!!

Here's Cyber6's Color Chart. I love #4!!

fpn_1408166408__kwzi_1-4.jpg

Purple - Again, I would normally choose more than one here and leave behind the black. Because I love it for mixing, LCR. I'll ink this one up and share a picture. For sheer usability, Noodler's Purple People Eater.

NoodlersInkLaCouleurRoyale.jpg

Green - Oh, I love greens. Space is limited so I'd take my package of Green Diamond ink powder. I can add it any of the above and be happy. If you don't have this or can't get JustWrite.com.au to sell you the ink concentrate, then Noodler's Green Marine. OH, but I don't yet have Green Marine, so I'd take V-Mail, GI Green.

http://sheismylawyer.com/She_Thinks_In_Ink/Colors/Green/slides/2014-Ink_580-Noodlers_VMail_GIGreen.jpg

Turquoise - see above about NNT, but if I hadn't added NNT above, then Midway Blue. (Though Noodler's Turquoise Eel or De Atramentis Document Cyan might make the list for other reasons).

http://sheismylawyer.com/INK/attachments/2012-03-03-63_MBlue.jpg

Brown - well, I'd want to skip Black and Brown both to make room for other color which I really love. If I had to bring a brown, then FPN Galileo Manuscript Brown. (Image from GBD)

ClelTyE.jpg

Orange - Well, as much as I think Apache Sunset is cool, I really like KWZI Orange, but ultimately, I'd take MB Ink of Joy, see how it holds up to fading! (Thanks Colrehogan)

http://sheismylawyer.com/She_Thinks_In_Ink/Tests/Fade/2012/Subjects/slides/120.jpg

Red - I love reds and pinks. Burgundies don't move me the same way. Red - if I didn't take a Noodler's eel, then I'd have to take Noodler's eel red because it removes stains. If I have taken an eel ink, then I'm taking a De Atramentis Roses or maybe Kermesin because I adore how vibrant they are. Although, I might take the new Voltaire because WOW is it pretty.

http://sheismylawyer.com/She_Thinks_In_Ink/2014-Inklings/slides/2014-Ink_2110.jpg

Voltaire is a little slow to dry, but it is somewhat water resistant, and it is formulated to be fade resistant.

fpn_1439936655__20150717_170946.jpg

Pink - As much as I adore my Iro pinks, I wouldn't take them, because the bottle is just too cumbersome. Although, do look at the sheet above, Tsutsuji and Momiji hold up to the sun. The MB Pink bottle would match with Ink of Joy, but it would probably be De Atramentis Doc Ink Magenta because it is so wet and mixes beautifully. While I was gone, I'd miss my other Pinks.

Well as people have strayed from the OP's colour groups somewhat, I'll wander even further away.

As this is about reducing the space taken up by ink bottles, I'd take my Octopus RIMIK™ (Rainbow Ink Mixing Kit) for fountain pens, comprising bottles of cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Then I could mix practically any colour I wanted.

I am loving all of your answers!

Instead of limiting my inks to just 7, now I want to go out a buy a bunch more ink based upon your responses! But, I will exhibit self control here!

Thanks for responding! I look forward to seeing more choices!

That's a great idea. I was thinking that the Platinum Mix Free kit would be a good option.

Okay, here is another suggestion. For $120 take the entire line up of Iroshizuku inks. Try them while you are away and decide what you liked, if any or all.

I think you sent me this!! I've never filled it out and sent it back because looking at those pinks makes me happy.

Also, I bought the MB Pink because of this, and man in one of my vintage pens, the MB pink gets very dark.

ETA yup it's hanging out on my bulletin board.
