Sheaffer Valor

Recommended Posts

Fellow collectors,

This August Sheaffer will roll out three new Valor colors: Deep Blue (with palladium plate trim), Glossy Brown (with 22K gold plate trim), and Polished Burgundy (with palladium plate trim). All the colors are marbled and we understand they are very impressive.

The Valor has been a great success, so Sheaffer is now on the path to more colors.

Sorry for the catalog scans, but we don't have the prototypes in yet for photos. They'll be here soon.

Cheers,

Hi All,

The Valor seems like a very nice pen indeed. I recently had the chance to examine one in person, and it gives every evidence of being a quality product.

One might quibble with its styling, or with the strength of its connection to Sheaffer traditions, but those are largely subjective matters.

The new colors are attractive, but I have to admit that I was hoping Bic might start to use the Valor as a platform to introduce some really interesting colors and patterns. There are a lot of beautiful celluloids and resins out there; the large size of the Valor would really show them off.

On the other hand, the Valor might also adapt nicely to colors and patterns inspired by Sheaffer history. The attached image puts my embarrassingly inadequate Photoshop abilities on display, but it might suggest another styling direction worth exploring.

Cheers,

Jon

No need to feel embarassed Univer, gives good idea of what the Valour might look like in a striated design.

Must admit I am still undecided about the Valour, not sure if I like the design/look of the pen, but in this type of pattern or one of the Glow patterns from the Balance II I would be very tempted.

Yet to find anybody who stocks it in the UK apart from mail order so have not seen it it the flesh. My main complaint is that it seems overpriced but do like the inlaid nib.

Don't know where you are, but have seen them at Websters Pen shop at Bluewater and they probably have them at Bromley as well.

They feel OK in the hand, just not convinced about the overall shape, but maybe if/when they get discounted I might be tempted.

Wow!

Finally some great news from Sheaffer again. I'm glad I didn't buy a Valor (black) already! The marbled ones look great. Also I'm really happy that it's not another laquer over brass version as I don't like those ( and always fear laquer splitting of).

Where are the parts (nib and barrel/cap) made?

Hopefully those will become available in Germany too.

Do you already now suggested retail prices and available nib widths?

Cheers

Michael

The Valor cap and barrel are made in Italy and the nib units were being made in Fort Madison last year, though I know Sheaffer was going to farm that out to a German nib company.

I remember discussing that with Sheaffer a year or so ago and they rediscovered that making an inlaid nib is not easy and had a lot of difficulty with early samples. Sheaffer has been making them since 1959, so it's no surprise that someone can't just whip one up.

The MSRP for the pens are as follows:

Fountain pen (fine / medium / broad nib) - US $350.00

Rollerball pen (uses Sheaffer Slim refills) - US $295.00

Ballpoint pen (uses Sheaffer "K" refills) - US $265.00

MSRP of $350!!!!!

Let's see, for Black or very dark Blue or very dark Brown or very dark Burgundy!

Maybe Dark Grey next?

Are they going for that vast untapped Undertaker market?

Don't get me wrong, I like Black and Gold and have FPs that color combination. But "new" three others that in anything but bright sunlight look exactly the same?

Excuse me for not getting excited.

How about something in the original Balance or Balance II colors, or how about the Vacumatic stripped colors!!!!!

I just notice left two black valor 9350 9351 on picture2 have different screw width than another 9356

but I saw same black valor at shop and it has more wide screw width like 9356 not 9350 or 9351

so are those a proto-type or ealy type of valor?

Always WTB: any Sheaffer FEED, PFM (Mint or Grey), PFM parts

The two black pens are prototype photos and Sheaffer has never bothered to replace them with photos of the actual production pen. Even on the dealer website these are the images being supplied. All Valors have the wide thread. I like it better esthetically, and they are supposed to be less prone to stripping.
