Also, for those so inclined, I know that Goulet sells used empty Noodler's bottles for very cheap, if you want to grab some of them to decant from the plastic bottles.

..if it came in a little plastic bear that might attract a whole new group of buyers, especially if the plastic bear had some kind of nozzle on the top of his/her head which facilitated easy ink filling of pens....that might fairly rawk!

I won't lie -- the more I think about it, the more I love the idea of a little row of plastic bears on my desk, filled with jewel-bright ink and ready to be used to fill an eyedropper. Practically, the seal to prevent evaporation would be tough and those li'l clear plastic bears are unlikely to provide much in the way of UV-protection. It would still be neat, though. :D

I hope that noodlers rectifies this problem by having some sort of inkwell or ink storage bottle for its users. Then Nathan can ship his ink in plastic bags and I will still buy them.

You've got a great point. I think that's the idea. Let's get the inks in pouches that we pour into the little filler bears. I think the Polar inks and Blue Nose Bear will be the first inks I decant. :P

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Cite your source: where does he say that? Also - we don't use the imperial system, we use the US customary units system: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_customary_units

And anyway, it works both directions. I've heard quite a lot of more direct slams from that side of the Atlantic. And yes, I can cite them, but will let them slide if possible.

I think humans just specialize in annoying each other. It should be an Olympic sporting event.

?? I think you missed the joking tone, and it wasn't in quotes. Mr. Tardif made reference to his American units, from the land of "oz", somewhere just eastish of Kansas.

And Mr. Tardif knows how to be a provocateur, too.

What bear bottles are y'all talking about? We sell these up in Maine (moose, too).

We could take the plastic bottle thing a bit further. How about a bottle resembling the "prize" in A Christmas Story" ?

Noodler's would have a leg up on the competition.

I just hope he finds a more aesthetics plastic container than the temporary one.

It is only temporary. Glass will be back.

Stock up now on the plastic containers to get extra ink for the same price.

The "Prize" bottle should be restricted to pink ink.

And we can call it totally tasteless.

Perhaps Nathan should check with Kevin of Blackstone about the plastic pouches. Some people might not be keen on decanting, though.

As for bear bottles, I would think a batch of Bear Squirrel bottles would be suitable.

I'll be sad to see the glass bottles go, but I'm not sure that the plastic ones will be too much of a change. When I go to fill my pen from a Noodler's bottle the glass is usually coated with ink so I can't see in except down through the mouth of the bottle. Opaque plastic won't change that.

I'm not worried about UV protection or a 40 year shelf life. I know some ink lasts 40 years, but if I ran across a bottle of ink that old I'd probably throw it away rather than put it into one of my pens.

So mainly, it seems like they won't look as good. I think Shaeffer Skrip comes in plastic? That might be the only plastic ink bottles I've got. *shrug*

I have 4 cats. They knock things off of my desk all the time. They haven't broken a bottle of ink, but they've tried to knock them over as I filled a pen on more than one occasion. Unbreakable ink bottles? Could be a good thing.

It has been looked at, but it isn't easy. First, it requires re-tooling the bottling process and buying new equipment. This cost would have to be amortized over future production runs, costing you more money for the same amount of ink. Added cost without added value is a non-starter. Second, it locks future production into buying specialized containers available from limited vendors, putting NI at the mercy of these makers. So, again, a non-starter.

.... Added cost without added value is a non-starter. ...

This all depends on how one defines "cost" and "value." There are always judgments and choices being made. And every choice has a consequence. Producers make choices. Purchasers make choices. Vendors make choices. I don't consider any of these "non-starters" because I always consider that there are options to choose among, even various values and principles to prioritize and choose among.

Hmmm... I don't like the concept of plastic. Plastics are porous, that just leads to all sorts of problems. Just sounds like a cheap thing. Not really liking the concept at all. He says it's about the ink and not the packaging. Can't imagine plastics performing as well as glass.
