Pilot Capless Decimo And Vanishing Point Nibs

Hi,

After researching for my next fountain pen for long time, I have decided to get Pilot Decimo Dark Grey EX.

However, one of the Japanese sellers that I contacted said that there is no Dark Grey with EX nib. I wonder if this is true. Is there anyone who knows a seller who sells Pilot Decimo Dark Grey with EX nib? I have checked Amazon, eBay, jetpens, and other websites but couldn't find it.

Also, I see that some posts say Pilot VP nib and Pilot Decimo nib are interchangeable, and some other posts say that some adjustment should be done for Pilot VP nib to be used in Pilot Decimo. I wonder if there is anyone who has had this experience of swapping nibs between VP and Decimo. I am asking this in case there is no Decimo Dark Grey with EX, I would probably buy Decimo Dark Grey with F nib and purchase a EX nib separately. (I have seen there is VP EX nib sold online, but never seen Decimo EX nib sold online.)

Thanks,

FYI: Vanishing Point and Decimo use the same nibs.

Thank you for the help!

I am waiting to get Pilot Decimo Grey with Fine nib. Hopefully, the nib does not write too thick.

If it does :wallbash: , I will get VP EF nib to switch the nibs.

The medium runs quite thick, but the rest are typical to their nib size.

Also, keep in mind that the nib itself is not really removable, but is attached to a "body" that is removable from the pen body. If you Google "Pilot Vanishing Point nib", you'll see what I mean.

The nibs are 18kt--bit too soft for my taste, but most enjoy it. I'm ordering a 14kt fine Vanishing Point nib next week from Anderson's, it'll be in by then (fine nib is currently sold out).

I'm pretty sure that I have the exact same Decimo and fine nib unit combination you are looking at. I've had it for just under two months and am still using the Pilot Black cartridge that came with the pen. Since I have not used that ink in any other pen or with any other nib, I am not able to be as precise in my assessment of things as I might otherwise be. With that disclaimer, you can decide how much value you might wish to place on my comments.

First, regarding swappability: I have two Vanishing Points and the nib units from them (an extra fine and a stub) are completely compatible with the Decimo body.

Second, the fine nib unit: I find it to be a good width, but rather wet. I have also tried the fine nib unit that came with my friend's Vanishing Point and it performs similarly (admittedly, he also is using the Pilot Black cartridge). I have been hoping that the cartridge will run out soon, so I can do a long term test with an ink that I have tried with the extra fine nib unit to get a fair comparison. When I do, I will report back. I did do a quick test a few weeks back for someone who was asking about the nib on the Custom 823. It does also include the extra fine nib unit, but with a different ink, so the comparison is not perfect in my eyes. I have posted the image below, just in case you might find it of use.fpn_1438349182__pilot_f_nibs.jpg

Current Daily Carry: Pilot Custom 743 with 14k Posting nib (Sailor Kiwa-Guro), Sailor 1911L Realo Champagne with 21k Extra Fine nib (Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu). Platinum Century 3776 Bourgogne (Diamine Syrah), Nakaya Portable Writer Midori with 14k Extra Extra Fine nib (Lamy Peridot), Pilot Vanishing Point Stealth Black with Extra Fine nib unit (Pilot Blue Black), a dozen Nockco DotDash index cards of various sizes and a Traveler's Notebook.

Thank you both for the help!

I have received the Decimo with fine nib. I like the smoothness, but I find it is kind of thick and too soft. I wonder if there is such a nib 14k and extra fine for VP/Decimo.

If you check the Japanese Sellers on ebay or Rakuten and look for a 'Special Alloy' replacement nib unit, this will be gold plated stainless steel, not sure what nib sizes are available though. These nibs are normally sold in the Japanese home market only.

I bought my Capless (VP) from a Japanese seller with a special alloy fine nib - they're a good bit cheaper than the 18k gold pens - and it's an excellent nib. Very smooth and quite wet with a bit of bounce but I wouldn't say it's soft or flexy. I also have an 18k broad which is obviously a significantly different nib but no 'better' for being gold. Unfortunately I can't compare the it with the 18k fine nib.
