Chinese Pens Show And Tell.

I'm getting worse. :D

I thought to myself "Hero flighter eh!, now there's something to explore."

And, I've ended up ordering a Hero 9315 in gunmetal and rose gold.

Not exactly a standard flighter type, but I couldn't resist.

Much like the big yiren I ordered a few weeks back, oh! And the ornate Jinhao dragon thing with the green Pearl from last week.

I really need to get a grip.

Ian the Jock, sounds like you are on a roll. If I had not run out of spending capital, I would be right behind you. Got a Picasso and Kaigelu in my Ebay basket. My Hero 953 has not arrived in the States as of yet, and my Platinum 3776 seems to be stuck in S. Korea. It would help my angst if at least one of them would be delivered tomorrow.

I had convinced myself I was going to stop until funding allowed for the Picasso Avignon purchase.

Then I saw the Yiren 827 and thought "that looks like a whole lot a pen for the money" and the 57g weight made it fall right into my ebay basket.

If I hadn't bought that, the Jinhao and the Hero, I'd have the Picasso en route by now. 😕

Ian, I am overjoyed for you! Now for the Picasso Avignon. I just checked on my Platinum 3776 (B. nib), and it has arrived in NY. I'm sitting here with bated breath waiting for its arrival. The gunmetal pen reminds me 'somewhat' of the Hero 953 I ordered.

I really like the Yiren and the Hero...not so sure about the Jinhao which looks a little uncomfortable to write with.

Let's be honest Ian, it's pretty uncomfortable to look at as well. :D

I have high hopes for the Yiren, and generally The Heros costing more than a couple of $ are pretty good, but the Jinhao,.... I can only put it down to temporary insanity.

I suppose I can now tick the "overly ornate Chinese pen" box.

This fountain pen carry on is bonkers. :D

Yip, both Parker-esque in looks Helen.

I actually found a chrome and rose gold version first, which was nice too, but I thought the gunmetal and rose gold would look more striking.

I am a sucker for rose gold.

Thought I would give Rose Gold a try today Ian (thanks to you) My camera (because of lighting) does not capture the Rose Gold well. Can't wait for the new camera. Jinhao 599 (metal) & Jinhao X750

Helen, I may have said this before, but that Hero 953 is elegant.

Bob, I like the looks of this Hero as well. Kind of classy looking!

Bob & Ian: It arrived this afternoon. Hero 953 - F/M Nib. You're right, it is a classy looking pen. I can see pulling it out at a board meeting, and someone wanting to take a closer look. It is not flashy/gaudy. Does not look 'cheap'. Did require a bit of 12000 grit micromesh. Like the two tone nib and the etching. Also like the design on the clip. Came in a nice pen box, which reminds me of a Picasso box. Nice balance. Like the etched lines on the cap & barrel. Caps well, for those who cap their pens.

It looks pretty impressive Helen, certainly elegant and classy looking.

I do like it.

Unfortunately my gun and rose one is due to arrive while I'm away on holiday. :(

The big Yiren might arrive this week though. :)

Fingers crossed.

The Yiren 827 arrived this morning.

The photies aren't the best, as I was trying out the camera on my new phone.

For me, this is a better pen than the Jinhao 8802 Abelone that arrived last week.

It's big, chunky, looks great, and writes like a dream.....magical.

A quick update.

This big Yiren is a STORMER.

I've been using it non stop since it arrived, and I love it.

In fact, it's one of 2 pens that I'll be taking on holiday with me, the other being my Picasso Feeling of Rome 517.

I'll probably have no need for a pen whatsoever, but just in case. :D

That is a very attractive pen. The actual body of the pen (not the cap) reminds me of a cross between a Waterman Expert MK1 and a Waterman Le Man which are among my favourites....hunting one out today I think!

I thank that's what attracted me Ian.

I'm a "Waterman-er" too.

It's a good bit bigger though, but definitely waterman-esque.

  • 2 weeks later...

Two new pens: the brand name is "Monte Mount". Inspired by the Montblanc Heritage Rouge et Noir. They come in several colors, but not Coral Red. There is no snake head on the nib, but the cost is less than 1% of the original. The nibs read: "Genius Iridium Germany" - there is no other writing anywhere on the pen and it does NOT have the Montblanc trademark snowflake on the top of the cap. It writes well: smooth and sufficiently wet. The cap posts securely, but the metal threads inside will rip the paint off the body and it has better balance and plenty of length without the cap being posted. They come with slide style converters with a spring agitator. They have an all metal body and feel like a solid quality pen.http://efball.com/images/pens/montemount2.pnghttp://efball.com/images/pens/montemount1.png

Those are pretty blatant Frank, are they not?

I do really like the "real" version but as you say, at 100 x the cost, it ain't gonna happen.

I am a "must post" geezer and that could be an issue with the threads and paint issue, but otherwise these are worthy of consideration.

I'm pleased they aren't sold or branded as Mont Blanc though, even though they are a bit obvious.

If they write well, then they are a winner.
