:lticaptd: you see Helen, I knew it!

There's one on that list that I convinced myself that I'd never, ever, buy, and have managed to keep it that way for 2 and a half years.

Until it dropped onto the mat today.....

That's how this madness gets you. I'm even buying pens that I don't like.

Here's the next part of my little family portraits number.

I know there are only 4 in the Picasso family, but 4 still counts as a family, and a particularly good family they are too.

PICASSO

fpn_1494248657__family_picasso.jpg

There's very little needs said about these 4, they are all fabulous pens.

The 915 is in a class of it's own , although the other 3 aren't too shabby either.

Brilliant pens.

HUAHONG

fpn_1494250036__family_huahong.jpg

This is the largest Family in my whole collection, and there would have been more had I not faffed about deciding whether or not to buy others that were a bit more expensive (not by much, but that's where Scottish frugality can be a burden), and are now only available for considerably more, like 10x more, but hey, you live and learn, I won a watch with this lot anyway.

The blue/red belters are probably, pound for pound my best ever find in the world of Chinese pens, and are stupidly good for what they cost.

Yes, I do have other Chinese pens that I consider excellent value, and brilliant pens, but I didn't get any of them for £1

All of the pens in this photo, are all very good pens, and when I add up what they all cost, it wouldn't even add up to the price of a new Waterman Hemisphere. :yikes:

And the Blue Belter alone would kick the Watermans' derriere.

Keeeeeeeeep Writing.

It is a thing of beauty Maurizio.

I remember you saying that you liked a "girthier" or bigger pen, and thought maybe you should take a look at a few Duke pens.

The Taoist priest...A monster.

The Charlie Chaplin...another monster,

And the Duke Da Vinci series..not quite monsters but more like the Kaigelu 316 size, so still large.

I have poured over these on many occasions....

But I'm scared of them. :D

Ahhh! the big juicy 750.

Every 750 I have held has been wet and juicy, which makes them a prime candidate for grinding into a broad italic, as the feed has no problem keeping up with the extra ink demands...lovely.

The Charlie Chaplin is indeed a monster, the heaviest pen I own by a long way at 74g, split equally between the cap and the rest of the pen. And a beautifully smooth writer, one of my favourite pens.

I've been very close to pulling the trigger on the Chaplin many times Frank, and it is inevitable that I will at some point, get one...I feel I must.

And the Taoist too.

Every time I've been on the verge something else pops up and whoosh that money is gone...again. :D

Right now I have my eye on one of the Picasso Luxors that Helen also has a fancy for, but after that.

Who knows.

Ordered the Duke 619 Noble Mentor Priest-B. nib last nite, and the Picasso Luxor on Wednesday. I know I have enough pens to last a lifetime, however, like yourself, I keep discovering additional interesting pens that do not bankrupt me. Ian I have to admit, I am starting to enjoy my Lorelei pens, which is really surprising. Are you familiar with the Duke Supreme?

Most of the chinese pen today are great
BUT some old pens of legendary reputation still persist.

Usually they are called NOS
New Old Stocks.

this one you BEST AVOID.

After the Kangaroo (Kaigelu 316), here comes the Crocodile 168.

I wanted an affordable orange-colored pen, as an EDC pen, to use with my brown hue inks, and I think I have found it in the Crocodile 168.

The pen writes quite smoothly and on the dry side, though with no skipping. Nib size is probably #6 and writes Medium-Fine. The leather embossing makes the pen quite unique and interesting, definitely quite different than the mainstream Jinhao 750s, 450s or 159s.

I keep it inked with Waterman Havana Brown ink, next I want to try it with Noodler's Apache Sunset...

Please find attached pictures of the actual pen, its nib, its component parts, and last a picture of the Crocodile 168 with the Jinhao x750 for size comparison purposes.

Be careful posting your Crocodile. It can leave a minor scratch in the material. I have had the blue one for about 10 yrs. I learned early in the game, and now, do not post the cap. The minor scratch I had I was able to mask with a blue ink the color of the pen.

Helen, thanks for mentioning. Unfortunately I already have found this out the hard way. I had one minor dent of the leather towards the end ot the barrel, thanks for the ink repair remedy. Still the pen is a keeper for me. I always wanted an inexpensive reliable carry-on pen for my brown inks, and I think I have found it, at least for the time being... :)

Jinhao 159

  • Length: 14.8cm/5.83"(approx)
  • Diameter: about 1.6cm/0.63"(approx)

Lovely pen, little to broad for my finger grip.
