Chinese Pens Show And Tell.

Kev

I have found the Picassos to be of excellent quality, and certainly a step up from the less expensive pens.

My 903 has been getting use for about 2 1/2 yrs now, and it is still as good (looking, and operationally) as the day It arrived.

The 915 is the widest/girthiest and largest overall, of the Picasso pens I've experienced, and what a pen it is too.

Here is a statement by our good friend and member Jewelrymathematics from his listings for Picasso pens.

Picasso pens are made by Shanghai Pafuluo Stationery Co. Ltd.

It is a new fountain pen manufacturer established in 2002, by 6 directors with the authorisation of the Picasso brand.

It is a great combination of Picasso art and fountain pens.

The short history does not devalue the high quality of their pens and magnificent aftersale service.

The return rate of their pens is the lowest of all the Chinese pens.

I'm on a bit of a Picasso kick at the minute, and I'll S+T another when I get a chance.

In my opinion, they are genuinely very, very good.

Ian -

Thanks for the excellent background info on the Picasso 915. You folks here on the Chinese forum have gotten me on Chinese pen kick too. I had some birthday money in late March and because of the Chinese forum I've purchased in the last month a Jinhao 1200, a Jinhao x750 and Hero 382. I'm afraid I'm going to have to order one of those Picasso 915s and then take a breather.

Thanks for your post

Ok, Here's part 2 of my new Picassos show and tell, as promised.

This one was a bit of a surprise. :)

To be honest, I expected both this, and the Gentleman (302) to be good, but both exceeded my expectations, as both are excellent pens, however, The Feeling of Rome was the biggest surprise of the 2.

It really is excellent.

Cheers

Ian 'the enabler.' Thank you for your review. I have given thought to that pen many times over the past yr, and now for your expert insights! I am now wrestling with the Picasso 926. I truly love the looks of this pen. Currently in my Ebay basket. Have you had any experience with this pen??? Just one click and I'm committed. ;)

Helen

I was close to buying the Black "Peace" Luxor when I bought the 915.

It celebrates Picassos' peace dove, you know the one, from the 915s nib, and it was only the beautiful Ruby acrylic of the 915 that swung it.

If funds allowed, I'd have had both.

The white is quite a stunner, but just too clean for me :D I'd be frightened to touch it, but I am in no doubt that it will be as every bit as good as the others.

It looks like a perfect match for you. :)

Picasso 917 looks like a very nice one Ian. I'm tempted. I see it on Amazon USA for $30. I think that's too steep. I'd be willing to pay $20.00 and will see if I can find it elsewhere (I don't use ebay).

Wow

That is steep.

I paid just under $13 for mine from the Jewelrymathematics fella.

He is on ebay China though, but is very reliable, and is always up for a bit of bartering.

His Buy it now price (he does accept offers) is only $16 to start with.

If I was spending another $30 I'd buy another 915, or maybe these 2 again, but in different guises.

I got both the 917 and the 902 for $30

Wow, I love this thread. Thank you for introducing me to Chinese pens, and Thank you Ian in particular for your reviews, they have really piqued my interest in these good value pens.

I do not own any Chinese pens at present, but an X750 is currently on it's way to me.

Welcome to the party :)

The x750 is much lauded, and a fine introduction into Chinese pens.

After that, the rabbit hole beckons. :D

I thought today, I'd do some family portraits.

If anyone has any questions at all, please, don't be shy. :)

JINHAO

fpn_1493988346__family_jinhao.jpg

The burgundy x450 was my 1st ever fountain pen, along with a Baoer 3035, and both blew me away.

I preferred the styling of the Baoer but preferred the weight and robustitude of the 450, therefore the slide into the rabbit hole began.

The blue 500 and the 1200 silver dragon are my dedicated Baystate Blue pens, and the 500 which has a fine italic grind is one of my favourite handwriting pens (among all of my pens), and I use it every day without fail.

The black and rose gold 217 is my favourite of all my Chinese pens, even more so than the Mighty Roo, and the Picasso 915, which is some feat, and is a perfect example of what Jinhao "can" do. It was my favourite the day it landed, and remains so today, 2 and a half years later.

HERO

fpn_1493990086__family_hero.jpg

The big hitters among this lot are, the 572, the 7022 (more expensive one) and the 1026, all of which are brilliant pens. The 572 even has a bit of a flexy nib, and writes beautifully.

Others worthy of mention are the 3013, and the 8018, both of which are excellent writers, and are very well balanced, with only the aesthetics maybe not being to everyones' taste. The 8018 has a lovely wet broad nib, and is a very robust pen, as is the 3013.

The eight horses and the 77 both have semi hooded nibs and are lovely smooth writers, with the 861 being a particularly pleasant pen to use.

In fact I have found that all of my Heros are very nice writers, and have had no issues whatsoever, but then I tend to steer clear of their cheapest offerings.

When I get time I'll do some more "families", including my Huahong clan, which is my largest Chinese pen family, but until then........Write with Joy.......I do.

Cheers

Aw Naw, not again!!

What if you don't like it..

Only joking.

When I sang the praises of the 915 I had my concerns that the styling might not be everyones' cup of tea, especially when folks all started ordering it. :o

I have no such reservations with this one Richila, it is a cracking pen.

The whole nib /collar/semi hooded set up is gorgeous.

I never, ever, ever take my pens out of the house, but last week I had to attend a meeting that would require a fair bit of writing, so I loaded my wee pen case with the 917 and a considerably more expensive Waterman.

After 2 hours of non stop, flawless, high speed note taking, and not a beat skipped, I headed home.

The Waterman hadn't seen daylight.

You'll love it Richila.

I now feel I need to get more Picassos as a matter of urgency. :wallbash:

Hi maximme

Unfortunately Jinhao discontinued the 217 around the time that I got it. :(

There may still be some knocking around though, and it would be worth having a look for one, as it is a brilliant pen, and gorgeous too.

I'm not a big demonstrator fan, and not posting is a dealbreaker for me.

It does look a lot of pen for the money though.
