Chinese Pens Show And Tell.

Ian the Jock

Recommended Posts

Thanks, I just bought another, I think there are at least 4 in the series, although at least one of the sellers (hrongfdsb) on eBay is not shipping to the UK for some reason. My order went through xiongfu1990 who Bob mentioned in connection with Huahong pens originally.

I may well take the time to get my proper camera out and do a full review this weekend.

Yes, that is were I buy all mine. Very reliable and has a great variety.

Duke 552 - Bamboo barrel. #5 Medium Nib. Pearlesent insert in the top of the cap. Length 149 mm. Weight 64g. Screw cap. This pen is for those with large hands! For a pen this size, a #6 nib would be more appropriate. Best to use uncapped

That's a good looking Pen, and I have large paws. Might have to look into one of those.

Jinhao Century Blue. #5 Med. Nib - very smooth; fairly wet; no skipping and minimal feedback. Perfect fit for smaller hands unposted. Blue pearlescence. Not true celluloid, but an attractive pen. No step, and the threads are smooth. Screw cap. Was not able to locate the Blue Century FP on Ebay. Can purchase the rollerball version of this pen.

Length capped - 5 1/4"

Length uncapped - 4 3/4"

Length posted - approx. 6 1/2"

HELP!!!!!!!!!

Have had this pen since 2008. I vaguely remember that this is a Chinese pen, but the name is not stamped on the pen. I think it might be a Fuliwen, but not sure. Changed original nib yrs ago because it was really scratchy, and inserted a smooth #5 nib. The current nib makes this pen a wet writer. Clip has a red stone in the tip. Cap top has same material as barrel (tiger eye plastic). Unscrews in the middle of the barrel in order to insert the ink converter. Bullet shape top. This is an unusual pen. Hoping someone might be able to identify the maker of this pen?????

Capped - 5 1/2"

Uncapped - 5"

Does not post

Fairly sharp step

Helen, the use of bamboo in the Duke 552 is a great choice -- looks great!

This is not a Chinese pen, but a Japanese Urushi Lacquer Maki-e. I have had this pen for about 12 yrs. I purchased it from a private Japanese pen maker. I wish I could get some clearer pictures. I have never inked this pen--not even dipped it in ink! I keep it in the beautiful box it was sent in. This is only one of the two Japanese pens I have, and I wanted to share it with the group.

I don't think I posted on your pages Ian the fact that one of my alltime favorites of JINHAO is a pen which over time has been called two things, namely the Abalone or the Mother of Pearl it is still being sold on E-Bay and is well worth every

penny , I have two of them,oneill

The Bookworm fountain pen. Med. #5 nib - smooth; no skipping; nice ink flow. Nib feed - no fins/flat bottom. Celluloid (?) insert in the center of the barrel. Nice amber color/can see the converter through the insert. Amber insert has some pearlescence. Filigree bands - not gaudy, but give the pen a unique look. Smaller hands - use unposted. Larger hands - need to post. Posting - some back heaviness. Section - plastic, but not slippery. Personally, I like the look of this pen. Have had it in my collection for about 7-8 yrs.

I'm a newbie to the FPN, but here are some pics I posted in the intro thread. I thought they would make sense here.

Just had a look at the Duke 552 bamboo on the 'bay, they are selling for 50 and 100 dollars Australian. Is a Chinese pen really worth this much? Otherwise a really smooth looking fountain pen.

I believe I paid approximately $15-19 for this pen new. Yes, it is a smooth writer, however, $50 I would rather add a bit more and get a a TWSBI Vac. I will admit the Duke 552 is not a pen you will see in too many hands. I see there is a used Duke bamboo Confucius on Ebay, that is about to be sold for $1 with $10 shipping from the States.

This is a Jinhao pen, however, there is no model # stamped on the cap. I have had this pen for approximately 10 yrs. Medium #5 nib, which writes broad & wet because of some tweaking; minimal feedback but not scratchy; good ink flow; no skipping. Feed does not have fins. Dragon clip too springy, with two red jewel eyes (put clear fingernail polish to keep stones in place). Typical Jinhao scroll work around rim of cap. Black jewel finial on cap and top of barrel. Snap cap. Does post securely. I remember paying less than $4.00 for this pen. Not exceptionally back heavy when posted.

Uncapped 4 3/4"

Trom, wow, a purple 159 in the flesh. Handsome!

Helen, I love the script imprint on that older Jinhao nib.

Another old Jinhao Confucius pen, without a model #. #6 med. two-tone nib. Top of cap has a ying/yang type symbol. One side of the barrel has the Confucius image, and the other side has Chinese characters. I have had this pen for about 10 yrs.

Another quite stunning pen Helen.

Your collection has quite a few Chinese pens which seem to no longer be available.

9-10 years on, they still seem to be doing what a pen should do...surprise, surprise.

Thanks for showing and telling Helen.

Helen,

I think the character on this pen is not Confucious, but the poet Li Bai; the lines of characters are four verses from one of his famous compositions. The finial shows a typical taoist symbol of Tai Chi (Yin and Yang), and the eight trigrams.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

Here is another oldie-but-goodie. This one is approximately 11-12 yrs. old. It's got a few 'war wounds', but it still writes beautifully. This is a Huashilai 2152 with a medium nib. Nib is surprisingly smooth, two tone with a nice design & manufacturer's name. Unusual feed. Cap: Dark blue with gold tone stripes. Clip clicks open & is silver tone with a blue dot at the top of the nib.. Barrel: Top 1+" is solid gold tone with a very unique finial. When you post the pen the solid gold tone shows a gold center. Bottom of barrel is like the cap--dark blue with gold tone stripes. Section Top dark blue with silver stripes. Bottom of section to the nib is solid silver tone.
