Of course amarjit, but remember these are just my favourites, and there are many many more pens out there that I haven't tried.

You've given me quite a task trying to narrow them down, but I'll have a go.

Ian, what ink colors are you using in that summary? The shading in the red is stunning.

Bob

The broad blue is sargasso sea

The broad red is syrah, as is the fine believe it or not, and the normal handwriting at the bottom is sapphire blue.

All diamine, and in fact they are my 3 favourite inks.

Let me start by apologizing for the quality of my pictures. These were taken with my phone, so that's all the better I can do for now.

This pen is one of the many varieties of the Huahong pens. This one doesn't have a model number, but I've been calling it the "silver lattice cap". It is a great writer, smooth as one could want and puts down a lovely medium/fine line. The specs are:

Length capped: 132 mm

Length uncapped: 117 mm

Length posted: 147 mm

Weight total: 35 grams

Weight cap: 16 grams

The pen came with a rather nice converter, and the nib is a superb (supposed) 22KGP duotone Huahong nib. The cap and the section are polished chrome and do attract finger prints, but that doesn't particularly bother me as it may some. This is one among many of the Huahongs I have picked up over the past month, and as Ian has been saying (along with others) they are splendid pens -- no need to qualify that statement by saying they are splendid for the cost!!!

Here are my rough pics:

The full pic of the pen with a writing sample in Diamine Syrah:

A close-up of the nib:

The somewhat odd English on the cap stating "Shanghai Huahong Make Pen"

Here is my recently acquired Hero 616 compared to its ancestor: the Parker 51 (Special demi model in my case, its the blue one, the black is the Hero)

http://i.imgur.com/fUmcLE0.jpg?1

I really like the Hero 616, while not as smooth as a genuine 51 its a pretty good deal for the prices you can get it at ($1.00 in my case).

If I had one complaint: I wasn't expecting it to be so thin. I really was expecting something as large in diameter as a 51 (I guess I should have found a jumbo).

Don't mind me, I like to ramble... A LOT

Brg5658, from one Hua Hong fan to another, the unusual English on your lattice cap makes it worthwhile. Their nibs really are excellent.

Brandon

I WANT ONE

I have looked at this pen a few times, and the mad writing has sold it.

That pen shall now be known, among the "hongers" as "the lattice cap".

Hahaha it would appear that we've got a wee Huahong club going.

Kiaxa, the 616 appears to be very popular, as was the 51, and it's cool that you have both.

I'm not really a fan of either as the hooded nib and style isn't really my bag, but it's got to the point that so many people have sang the praises of the 616 that I might just have to get one anyway.

Thanks for sharing your joys.

I, myself received a new Huahong in the post yesterday too.

I won 2 the same and this was the 1st arriving after only 2 weeks (not bad from China to Jockistan for free).

It's what I thought was a black and silver version of the "red lava" as it had the same broad faceted cap band with the logo on.

As it turns out, it's a different bucket of birdseed altogether.

It has the same excellent build quality as the lava, but doesn't taper at both ends the way the lava does, as the cap is completely different.

It does have the large band but is uniform in size and shape from top to bottom.

The cap has a brushed steel appearance and is "grooved" which I would describe as being like corduroy trousers, you know what I mean.

It has a nice squeeze converter which I have found works very well in the other pens that have it.

When I get a chance tomorrow I'll do the "show" part and put some pics up.

We just need a descriptive name for the pen now.

Maybe "corduroy cap" would do. Lol.

I would like to join the Hongers. After Brandon's photos of the lattice cap pen, I immediately investigated whether that pen was available. No joy for now. The photos are quite good, and certainly sufficient to generate pen envy.

One of the amusing qualities of the Hua Hong brand is that the only model numbers available are inconsistent, and probably a function of the only retailer, forcing users to name the pens themselves. Lattice cap, blue belter, red belter, corduroy cap, red lava, brown lava, barleycorn. I have a Hua Hong brown resin pen with grey highlights that I call Smokey the Bear.

Hongers, Jockistan -- you're as good at coining nouns as Peter Ford at Italix, Ian. You should take immediate charge of model naming. The company's origins are so mysterious that it has become a mission for the Hongers.

@bobjpage: I have a brown Huahong resin/acrylic pen with a "cracked ice" type look to it. I've been calling it the "Brown iced-cola" acrylic Huahong, as to my eye it looks like ice cubes in a glass of Pepsi (or Coke) cola. It's a fantastic writer, and is just the right amount of "bling" for my taste. It's the same "model" as the beautiful acrylic opalescent blue pen that Ian posted in another thread.

This same pen also comes in a pinkish-brown color with swirls of white and gray. Maybe that is the one you have? I refer to that one as the "Dusty rose swirl" as to my eye it has a red-brown-pink hue. I have one of those too, but haven't taken a picture yet.

Below is the one I call the "Brown iced-cola" acrylic. :)

Brandon, yes, you may be right -- "dusty rose swirl" is probably the resin in my similar Hua Hong. Your iced cola model is stunning, and I love that sepia ink. My favorite Hua Hongs are a blue belter -- as Ian the Jock calls it -- with a swirled blue metallic cap, and a deep red lava model.

Funnily enough Bob, my favourite Huahongs are exactly the same, as you can see in amarjits' top 2 summary.

I do prefer the "red belter" though, but that's just my red/black addiction.

Great pen Ian. I also purchased one of these, but mine came with a small problem :(

The section was split in two pieces (looked like the glue/adhesive had disintegrated). I edited a pic you posted to you show you where I mean. The black part of the section was separated from the lower silver part of the section.

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb364/brg5658/Pens/split_section_Corduroy_cap_zpsvvkdcsmt.jpg

Anyone have any suggestions about what kind of adhesive I should use to try to reattach these? I tried superglue, but I seem to have made a mess of things -- superglue isn't friendly in terms of keeping the parts where they belong or sealing the parts together so that no leakage occurs. Thoughts? I may have mucked this one up beyond repair.

Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

I have a Conway Stewart Trafalgar set. It was previously owned by actor Russell Crowe and includes a letter from him. Can anyone help me with assessing its value?

@inky1 The software for the classified stopped working with the forum. So no we don't have a sales section anymore at FPN

Thanks! I've just ordered some #6's to experiment with.
    • Al-fresco 21 June 12:11
@Eppie_Matts Shouldn't be a problem - I've just put a Bock #6 Titanium into a La Grande Bellezza section. Went straight in without any problem.

Hi all - I'm new to experimenting with pens and nibs. Can I put a bock 6 on a Pineider? Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to this forum and was wondering where is the best place to sell a Montblanc ballpoint pen? Are ballpoints allowed here? It's a beautiful pen that deserves a great listing. Thanks.
