Cambridge Deluxe Pen & Pencil Set - Who Made It?

I saw this pen & pencil set in a local auction. I did bid but I didn't win it. It was lotted with an odd collection of stuff including a set of medical instruments( probably ophthalmic surgeons tools by Weiss) and a Police truncheon!

However, I am keen to know more about it as its not a brand I've heard of and it wasn't in my reference books.

It looks if it is in the original case and "Cambridge deluxe" was imprinted on the pen barrel which was rather badly crazed. It looks 1930s styling but the price of 42/- (42 shillings or £2.10 in decimal notation) suggest the 1950s.

Does anyone know about this brand?

The brand is unlikely to be the manufacturer. The picture is not clear enough to ID with any accuracy, but I would look at Lang (Summit) or Mentmore as a starting point

Looking at the clip I think that Wyvern is a possibility.

It was quite difficult taking pics in the auction room!

The price does seem quite high for a pen without a named manufacturer. I wonder if there are any other "Cambridge" pens out there?

Is it Cambridge or Combridge? A picture of the nib would be most usefull too.

It's Cambridge and that's the best pic I've got! The nib didn't have any identification on it. Just the usual Warranted 14ct

Warrented nibs are never Just the usual Warranted 14ct. They have their own story to tell.

by which I think Peter means the warranted nibs produced by Lang look different from those produced by Mentmore, etc. So they help ID the original manufacturer

I've seen this pen labelled as an Avon, and no name and is very similar to a Wyvern Abbey pen, but more upmarket. I once spoke to John Sorowcka about them and he has a high opinion of them.
