With the previous post in mind, I find myself asking at what point does using fictional rhetoric to express an ideology or philosophy diminish the writer, his or her work and the reader - as I believe Woody Allen has done?

I would answer: funny is funny. If you laugh, it's funny. Comics go for laughs. This script won an Oscar, so a few people laughed. I've quoted Clarence Day's memoir here, Life with Father ("Why did God make so many dumb fools and Democrats?"). Wouldn't you agree that that's funny?

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

Bookman, I agree with you that funny is funny. I would agree that Woody Allen, as were a host of other comedic writers of his generation, is an extremely talented individual. However, I personally prefer his earlier works when making people laugh was his real goal.

And I would disagree with the assertion that his real goal is something other than making people laugh.

FPN really should have a "like" button! :D :lticaptd:

That quote has lived, stuck to my Mac, since the day I found and wrote it.

Thanks Arcadian. Your "like" has inspired me to pop a few others on here in the near future. :)
