Anti-Feathering Inks Outside Of Noodlers

Hi,

Where I am, outside of the USA, shipping costs make Noodlers inks difficult to get hold of at a decent price. Needing to work with cheap copy paper regularly, I was wondering if there are any inks or ink brands that are particularly feather-resistant and permanent outside of Noodlers? I have tried some Waterman and Diamine inks, and most of these feather and bleed a little too much to be usable in anything but a very fine nib.

Thank you in advance.

Iron gall inks are known for their anti feathering properties. I find that Diamine's Registrar's ink is working great even on very cheap paper, no feathering and no bleed-through.

The tradeoff is that you will have to use your pen often and a cleaning once a week wouldn't hurt. Also bear in mind it slightly stains converters.

Not sure where you are (mobile version user), but Rohrer&Klingner Salix ist very good on cheap paper and usually cheap to boot.

That sounds perfect - especially since Diamine tend to be such good value. Thank you very much!

I really like Rohrer and Klinger Salix. It's very well behaved and low maintenance for an IG ink.

I also recommend trying to get your hands on some Noodler's Black, despite the cost. It's permanent, waterproof when dry and doesn't feather on almost anything.

Montblanc Permanent Black. But while it's feather resistant on cheaper paper, there is a problem with bleed thru. Not sure if that's a issue for you or not.

Iron Gall inks, as mentioned above

Any of the pigmented inks like Sailor Kiwaguro, Pilot Pigmented Blue or Black, or Pelikan Fount India

However, I use plain old Sheaffer Skrip Blue or Black on office stationery to minimise feathering/bleeding.

Also, as advised, splurge on a bottle of bog-standard Noodler's black. If you need to travel with it, split it up into 3 x 30 ml bottles (i.e. old Diamine 30 ml bottles or small Nalgene bottles.)

I don't find R&K inks to be well behaved in terms of feathering or bleeding on really cheap paper, they work perfectly well on decent stuff. In my opnion Diamine Registrar's Ink works much better, one of the best for crappy paper, but then I find it to lubricate and flow rather poorly. R&K iron gall inks lubricated fine but flow poorly, but their normal inks flow really well.

Registrar's ink all the way for me and would be my recommendation; ESSRI or Diamine, not the most exciting or vibrant colour but very, very well behaved and stays on the page come rain or shine.

Edit to add: ESSRI is (possibly) the same ink as Diamine Registrars but is a bit cheaper to buy at £9.20 / 100ml bottle including delivery - http://www.registrarsink.co.uk/registrars_ink.html

Super - thank you everyone for all the help.I think following what you've all said, I'll get some Diamine Registrar's ink and samples of the rest and see how they fair before committing. I really appreciate all the advice.
