Sailor Bungbox Omaezaki Ocean

This is a series of ink reviews "blues reviews" covering nearly all the blue inks in my collection that I haven't yet reviewed. This ink is one of the custom inks Sailor creates for certain stores in Japan. This ink was created for the Bungbox shop in Japan. I'm not sure if these inks are available any longer. I obtained my bottle during a short time when Vanness had this ink in stock.

Tested on Mohawk via Linen, Hammermill 28lb inkjet, and Tomoe River.

Thank you for sharing. I admit to really liking the Lidth's Jay, but I'm a fan of wet writing blurples.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Here is the waterfastness test for this ink. I'd written the text for this test back in July when I did the review but failed to perform the test. Now I have. The paper is Hammermill 28 lb inkjet. The ink handled fairly well. Some loss, but not a lot.

Now that you add that water resistance, I think it's even nicer.

Is this Omaezaki Ocean (Lapis Lazuli) the same as Omaezaki Ruri-Umi, for which I can't seem to find reviews on the web?

Thank you!

Sorry, but I don't know. The name given in the review title was originally used by the vendor. That vendor no longer carries Bungbox after the last bottle redesign, and size reduction, and price increase. Another US vendor has only one of the Omaezaki inks, which I think is the Sky version. So it's possible the other term refers to the Ocean version, but I can't be certain of that.

I've attached images of the bottle and little slip of paper that came with the ink which has the name in Japanese. Perhaps this will be useful to you.

That's a nice looking color. But I may already have something similar (I do have a lot of blue inks).

Thanks for the review.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Thank you, white_lotus! The color on the label seems close to Ruri-Umi. Maybe I'll have some luck with the slip of paper! Your bottle sure is prettier than the new ones.

I have the ruri umi one and the label is different from that shown here. What I have is a sheening ink but otherwise a very plain, dull blue. Its a good everyday ink but I won't be rushing to buy another bottle

Oh... I was hopeful because I put "ruri-umi" in the translator and it gave me "sea", so pretty close to "ocean", but no cigar.

Do you find that it sheens no matter the pen, or do you need a wet or broad nib?

Would you happen to know how Omaezaki Ruri-Umi compares to Kobe #2 Hatoba Pier Blue?

I'm afraid I don;t know how it compares to the Kobe ink.

For the sake of clarity my bottle is labeled: "Ruri-umi : Omaezaki Sea" and is the Kobe/Sailor shaped bottle, not the tulip type. The pattern on my labeling also differs.

Is it possible they changed it? I remember seeing a review of it that showed a pleasing blue like this one shown here and that is why I bought it. What I have is a somewhat dark and dull blue-grey with a red sheen and no shading.
