Show Us Your Ebonite Fountain Pens

Purchased a Ranga Monterey from Peyton Street Pens. I opted for the 14k fine nib. I ground it to a XF. I also added flex by thinning the underside with a taper from behind the breather hole to about 1mm or so before the tipping material. I narrowed the shoulders as well. Since the shape of the nib changed, I had to set the feed and nib to make sure the ink would flow properly. I opened up the feed to keep up with the demands of the flex. I use the pen as an eyedropper so to get the ink started takes a few shakes. On occasion, I'll get a hiccup and the ink will just stop, but after giving it a few seconds, it's fine. No railroading since I have done all of the fine tuning.

Just filled it with Platinum Carbon Ink. It flows so much better than I expected and makes the lines look like a really wet fine instead of showing the (almost) hairlines I get with other inks.

It was my first attempt at adding flex and while it probably wasn't the best attempt, beginners luck was on my side. Overall, I'm pleased with how it turned out. Compared to my Edison Collier with a XXXXF Binder full flex nib, it produces a thicker line and line variation goes to the Binder nib. The Binder nib springs right back normal and the one modded by me eases into flex and eases back into it's original position. I could probably make it finer, but no need to get greedy.

Nino, your photograph nicely captures both the pen and your handsome writing.

That is a dramatic gallery in ebonite, Helen. I didn't realize it was available in such saturated colors -- the Ranga and FPR --wow!

Gama Airborne which is inked with Rohrer & Kilngner Verdura. The nib is Ambitious and it is a wet writer eyedropper pen. This pen is an homage to Eversharp Skyline.

A couple of years ago I was corresponding with Ratnamson regarding purchasing some pens, but they stopped replying to my emails... :(

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

Helen,

I see you have changed the nib on the Konrad; I wonder what that is!

I recently received my Ranga #8 in blue rippled which I purchased as a part of the recent group buy. I was tempted to take a few side by side photos with the acrylic ASA Santulan. Sharing them for your viewing pleasure.

Hi,

Its a Bock 250 nib unit. Its some kind of a special edition called Stahl Rot (Red Steel). It's available from Starbond-Europa.de but based on our general experience my suggestion would be to avoid the nib. check out my review of the ASA Santulan for the details.

Regards,

Chaki
