De Atramentis Document Ink - Green

De Atramentis is german manufacturer of calligraphy and writing ink. The inks are hand made (the entire production process is done manually in their manufacturing center) by i's founder - Dr. Franz-Josef Jensen. I believe he uses high quality dyes from well established European companies like BASF and Bayer.

De Atramentis offers a variety of "traditional" fountain pen inks and a broad selection of special and scented inks. I believe they should get more attention as the quality od these fluids is rather good and many of the colors are simply stunning.

Document inks are permanent and waterproof. I confirm - water does nothing to them. Time will tell if light influences them in any way.

The colors are:

1. Blue
2. Blue-Black
3. Brown
4. Fuchsia
5. Green
6. Red
7. Turquoise
8. Yellow

Green is fairluy well saturated and lubticated ink although you'll see significant saturation difference betweek Kaweco Classic Sport broad nib and Waterman Hemisphere's fine nib. It's natural but I've decided to show it to you anyway. The color is OK but I prefer greener greens. This one leans too much toward blue. Drying time is excellent but there's a drawback to it - the ink tends to feather on some papers, especially when used in broader nibs.

I believe this review misses one crucial feature of this ink - it bleeds copiously through pretty much everything. I found it usable only with XF nib (which it makes write like a medium, that's how wet it is).

Bleedthrough, Pigna paper (I diidn't set white balance well, so I had to overcook photos in PS; the ink isn't as saturated. But don't look at color, check the degree of bleedthrough - not massive, but present).

The bleedthrough is deal breaker. The color has some characteristics, but with feather and bleedthrough, it is a big no no for me as i prefer to write in wet nib.

It's a green I might have liked, because I like blue greens, and even gray-greens, and this ink seems to have both of those happening.

 

The bleedthrough is a deal-breaker, though. Pass.
