Lamy 2000 Service Question

Hi everyone,

 

Somehow I noticed that the threads had become stripped on my beloved Lamy 2k last month and sent it along to Lamy USA for servicing. They told me they would replace the barrel, however I recently received it back and noticed that the front section and barrel don't match/meet up exactly-- I can feel it when gripping the pen.

 

I am going to write them and ask if anything can be done, but I was wondering if any of you have had to send yours in and ever received it back in a similar state? Is this just what happens when you have Lamy 2k parts from different years? I had assumed the parts were standardized and should just line up.

Wow, I can see it. Is it possible that things aren't lined properly? I have the makrolon but haven't inked it up yet. I can imagine that it's annoying

I unscrewed the barrel-- checked new threading just to be sure and re-screwed with the same end result. It doesn't seem to have any thing to do with the internals, though I can't be 100% sure.

 

Even went back through other Lamy 2k photos to see if anyone's pen looked similar, but they all appeared seamless as mine once was.

Just checked my Lamy 2000 and it looks similar, maybe not to the extent yours has it though. It did annoy me at the beginning but I can't be bothered with dealing with Lamy service again. I'll wait till I need to send it in for something else and do it then.

That's definitely what I would call being beyond the realm of 'normal', I would write back because obviously they screwed up in servicing it, and should be fixed on their dime.

Hmmm I have a new one and you have to look really hard to see if there is join there and the piston filler - that just doesn't fit I would asking for it to be fixed.

Even slightly would drive me nuts on the fountain pen. I have a mechanical pencil that has a slight off-centering but I 'tolerate' that.

 

My used (though was new two weeks prior to me acquiring it) Lamy 2000 seems to be perfectly flushed all the way around, and no matter which way the section screws on it stays that way, and that's the way I would expect all of them to be for the price and where they sit in terms of their current offerings. I would have thought that the 2Ks after 2009 with the steel sections (ie: the only non-metal threading would be from the barrel side), would be more likely to be centered properly, or at the very least they would have checked this before shipping it back.

 

It would be of extra concern to me, because that's also the part that holds the rabbit ears for the cap mechanism.

Yea it's irritating me as the entire point of the design is how uniform and seamless it is. I have emailed back the service center and will see what they reply. I would certainly rather not have to pay for shipping and return shipping again.

 

I've sent this pen in twice already (once was my fault from a damaged nib ), but the shipping costs are quickly adding up to almost a new pen on the secondary market, and this one has no sentimental value to me.

 

Maybe my Lamy 2k is cursed-- it was a dream when I first had it, but has only caused me headaches since . Even the replacement nib I received from the first repair doesn't perform as well as the original.

I had something similar happen - I sent my pen in because it was leaking at the ears and was the early 2000's model. They replaced the section and when I got it back it wasn't flush with the barrel and there was a sliver of a gap between. So, it was driving me crazy that it wasn't seamless and I unscrewed it, screwed it back on etc.

 

Then I way over-tightened it trying to get it flush.... and broke the threads off in the section... I paid the postage to mail it back because the pen had sentimental value and I had also had the nib ground very fine by Mike Masuyama and I was hoping they could at least rescue that. They sent me back (at no charge) a complete pen - a new section and barrel with my nib and cap. It is now very flush and I am happy with it.
