The Super Duper Co-Razy Parker Penman Sapphire - Blue - Comparisons Psp

Ok, so having a brand new bottle of La Couleur Royale from a batch of the appropriately Royal Purple, I decided to nail down a mix for Amber's Noodler's Inkyman Sapphire.

If you have a bottle of the Royal Purple LCR, then the mix is 2 parts of Noodler's Navajo Turquoise and 1 part of Royal Purple La Couleur Royale, as below

If Amber gives me the appropriate Pinky Inky Imprimatur, then I will post the above in Inky Recipes.

Note, if you have a bottle of the slightly bluey purple LCR, then the ratio will be different, probably closer to 1:1, rather than 2:1, but it will be for others, who have a bottle of that batch, to confirm.

For those of you who, like myself and Tas, who have a bottle of LCR which really seems to be a mislabelled bottle of Noodler's Blue, no mixing of NB and NNT will turn it into NIS. Just enjoy the bottle of Noodler's Blue, because it is a really nice ink in it's own right.

For those of you who just want a simple ink that is a nice, safe blue, and is utterly washable, then I would recommend Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue, my new favourite ink for performing on carpy office paper. But that is for a different topic.

I very much agree. My LCR was definitely the purple. A while back when 4:1 was being pitched as the best, I tried 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1 NNT to LCR and I found the 2:1 to be the closest.

I am still working on my "PPS Project" comparing Inkmyn Sapphire, Private Reserve American Blue, Liberty's Elysium, Bung Box Sapphire, and PPS using two or three different pens on four different papers. If I ever get it done I hope to send the sheets to someone with a more reliable scanner than the one I have so they can be properly reproduced.

Thank you DCWaites and WhichWatch - Please do post.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Done

Noodler's Inkyman Sapphire

Also working up a little note on the history and background to FPS and NIS.

I think that it is valuable having both a 'safe' version in FPS and saturated version in NIS.

I'm getting a little lost in the various threads talking about PPS.

I haven't completed my full set of comparisons, but someone did ask about a comparison of PPS to Sailor Bung Box Sapphire, so I posted some "quick and dirty" comparisons and will also post here.

It is interesting to learn about the origin of Bung Box Sapphire. This is the text of a message printed on a little slip of paper included in the package of Sailor Bung Box Sapphire:

Hatsukoi

First Love

The owner fell in love

with a beautiful blue ink

called Penman Sapphire,

as if experiencing love for the first time.

This Hatsukoi is a re-creation of

the color and the feeling.

Below are some "quick and dirty" unscientific comparisons of PPS and Sailor Bung Box Sapphire on three different papers. I left the scans large size to accentuate the comparison. While they are reduced in this post, you can click on them to enlarge them. A few notes:

1. While for both inks I used Nakaya BB nibs ground to Architect Point by John Mottishaw, they were in fact two different pens and different nibs.

2. My scanner is simply an "out of the box" HP copier and I don't know beans about correcting for color, etc. While the scans are pretty close to what I see on paper, my scanner doesn't always capture the red content to a precise degree.

I find the inks to be really close. Of course, here in the US Bung Box inks aren't always readily available or especially inexpensive and therefore for many people won't be a suitable substitute..

Fortunately, Noodlers and Private Reserve are both easily available and inexpensive. So Inkmyn Sapphire (Noodlers NT + LCR 2:1), Private Reserve American Blue, and Noodlers Liberty's Elysium (Goulet Exclusive) which I also find to be extremely close in color to PPS, for many will be a better substitute. My scans follow:

Oh boy, that's the closest I've seen from a non mixed up ink.

Thank you!

You should check with David, we did have this in the original comparison and it wasn't as close as you might have hoped, so it could be paper dependent. WhichWatch will be able to give us more info in the next few days since he has a sample of PPS enroute to him.

Yes, the sample I wrote with was from a cartridge that was just given to me by a really generous FPNer. It had suffered a bit of evaporation so I had to add a bit of water, which makes it perhaps open to a little question. Plus, as I mentioned, my scanner is not perfect.

When the new sample from the bottle arrives, I will use that. I will also use that for a comparison I am doing of PPS with Inkmyn Sapphire, PRAB, Liberty's Elysium, and Bung Box Sapphire using three different pens for each ink on each of four different papers.

Well, if that doesn't put this quest to bed I don't know what will. Thank you.

(Parker Penman Mocha is proving just as tricky :( )

Really trying to persuade myself I don't need a bottle of Bung Box Hatsukoi (Sapphire).

Waves hand in front of own face - "You don't need a bottle of Bung Box Hatsukoi..."

Anybody care to swap a pre-loved firstborn for a bottle of Bung Box Hatsukoi (Sapphire)?

Sure, I'll send her tomorrow, but I warn you, she is a teenager. When will you send the ink?

I have all the kids (3) and grandkids (8) I need (or can stand), but I'd be happy to send you a sample of Bung Box Sapphire if you'd like. Drop me a PM with your address if you want a sample.

I received a sample of the (in)famous PPS via Northstar and Amber. Thank you very much!

With the first writing I can see why many folks are drawn to this ink as it's bright, a very clean middle blue, not heavy. In a comparison with my existing handwritten reviews and various notes, I'd say Sailor's Kingdom Note Garrulous lidthi "Lidith's Jay" is the closest in matching the color, though it's a deeper color with a more opaque character to the PPS ink. The Sailor Kobe #14 Maya lapis blue is also close.

I've never tried OS Nitrogen nor my bottle of Noodler's Liberty's Elysium, but from their color they look similar. But we'll see. And I'll have to give J. Herbin Eclat de Sapphir and a few others a try as well.

I don't have some of the other inks people have suggested such as Sailor BB First Love (Sapphire).

Thanks again for the chance to play with the inks!
