The Super Duper Co-Razy Parker Penman Sapphire - Blue - Comparisons Psp

David, once you get my two sheets please send me another almost blank page with some PPS writing on it? I want to compare this latest candidate. It's close to some promising alternatives already. Quink washable blue with SolvX: a completely different animal from the modern Quink WB. I am actually enjoying that one a lot.

Wow, those top 3 are almost indistinguishable on my monitor.

Here's a closeup. The top is NIS which is in my pen and my penmanship is not as lovely as DNeal's, but you get the idea.

Ok, I am thinking of making another Diamine 30ml order. Sargasso Sea is on my list, and now so is Blue Velvet.

Stop doing this, you temptress... :gaah: :gaah: :P :P :P

Anyway, looking at the colour wheel, and making LCR into FPS, both the blue batch of LCR and NNT are on the same side compared to PPS.

Mixing Blue LCR and NNT will just give you a slightly bluer NNT.

The mildly purple LCR is just on the other side of PPS, so mixing it with NNT will give you something very close to PPS.

Mixing the very purple LCR with NNT, will, if done judiciously, possibly give you something near PPS.

So, those with blue LCR and NNT, need to find something on the purple/magenta side of PPS to blend with either the blue LCR or NNT.

Happy mixing!!

LCR - La Couleur Royale

NNT - Noodler's Navajo Turquoise

PPS - Parker Penman Sapphire - The Ultimate.

This is an amazing thread.

But I'm waiting for the recipe book to come out!

At this point in time, and no promises as to what will happen in the future, it seems that there are four contenders for a useful replacement for Parker Penman Sapphire --

Real inks - Noodler's Liberty's Elysium and Private Reserve American Blue

Blends - Faux Penman Sapphire #9 and Amber's mildly purple LCR + NNT

Runners up - Diluted Diamine Sargasso Sea

Diamine Twilight??

More to come.

DCWaites, you have the originals in hand. What do you like the best?

Still working through them all.

Yes, I have been unconscionably slack, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

I will try to make dispassionate judgements first, then engage the emotions.

I'm sure I've missed it, but is there a recipe for Faux Penman Sapphire #9, or is it still a trade secret and you'd have to kill me?

PPS Co-Razy Shootout

Report and Results

Apparently I started this craziness off by sending Amberleadavis some original Parker Penman Sapphire. She then decided to make a batch of 40 sheets each with a writing sample of PPS. These were then sent to people who would try a number of different Blue inks to see how they matched with the grail ink. The sample sheets were written on and sent back to Amber who then collated them and sent them on to me to judge.

I now have a stack of Co-Razy sheets, as well as another stack of samples, not part of the Co-Razy set, but in addition. There is a wide range of different inks on them, and on a variety of papers. I am not sure what to do with them at the moment, but they make a valuable resource set.

Before examining the contenders I upgraded the lighting in my den from daylight fluoro light to a slightly brighter daylight LED light. This meant that no inks could get an unfair advantage by UV excited fluorescent glowing. All samples were examined closely in this light, helped with a LED desklamp, and with a loupe if necessary.

For an ink to be considered a contender it had to satisfy these criteria –

  • It had to be a clear match on the page. Those that were not a match were not considered
  • There needed to be more than one sample, from more than one pen, to be considered

Anyway, at last, here are the winners –

Drum roll please

Brr brr brr brr ………… brr

In the category of single ink made by a company, and is easily available, the winner is ……

Noodler's Liberty's Elysium Blue

The very close runner up is ……

Private Reserve American Blue

In the category of inky blends it is a tie between ……

Noodler's Inkmyn Sapphire and Faux Penman Sapphire #9

Honourable mentions go to ……

Cross Blue – LuMa

PR DC Supershow Blue – fireant

Sailor LE Shuni No Bungu Hako Blue – gylyf

Can I go to bed now?

Super exciting! Thanks so much for doing this!

I have some Inkmyn Sapphire mixed up and am enjoying it a lot. Now if I could just turn up an empty Parker Penman bottle without paying an exorbitant price for Parker non-sapphire Penman (such as ebony) ink, I'd be in hog heaven. Maybe I'll just have to settle for using one of my empty Akkerman bottles.

I have to still contend that Diamine Blue Velvet is the closest readily available match to PPS.

What an amazing thread this has been. A huge, massive, large, gigantic, redundant "Thank you" to those who participated, but especially Amberlea and dcwaites. Such heroic efforts in a noble cause!

Three cheers!

Hoorah! Hoorah! Hoorah!

This has to go down in the annals of FPN inky history.

Wait!! WAS?? You mean it's over?

Whichever way that goes, yes a huge thanks especially to Amber and David, for providing such massive inky resources and making the whole process enjoyable and fun.

let alone being responsible for exploding the number of 15ml ink samples now awaiting an empty pen...
