The Super Duper Co-Razy Parker Penman Sapphire - Blue - Comparisons Psp

LuMA, quite right! Of course whether the associations are cultural and passed on from generation to generation by social norms or whether the color reactions in the brain are "archetypal" or hard-wired into the brain is a very good question.

It is clear that Red traffic lights (and red stop signs, etc.) were chosen precisely because of the startling effect it has on the mind. So there must be something biologically connected to our perception of color —and the fact that we have developed color sensitivity through evolution, must have a purpose, right Science people?

OH and #22 went to JMcCarty

Did you mail it just recently? I haven't received anything. I'll have to come up with some blues that haven't already been tried.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Oh deary, deary, deary me! Somebody brought up Colour Perception and preferences.

This is one of those areas that is just so complicated.

  • First you have the physiology of colour perception - rods and cones in the retina.
  • Then you have our evolutionary history, including the concept of Red is bad/warning which dates back from the time that insects ruled the earth, long before the dangers of red fire existed.
  • Then you have cultural history, which will be different for each of us.
  • On top of that you have your own particular colour vision balance (previously called colour blindness) which comes from the ratio of the numbers of the different types of cones (red, blue, green) and their relative sensitivities.
  • Finally, overlaying the whole lot of that is your own personal life history, and how different colours affect your preferences and perceptions.
  • And, there are all the aspects that I haven't mentioned because I don't know about them.

It's truly a wonder that any two of us can agree on any colours at all.

And added to all of that is that some papers have optical (UV fluorescent) brighteners to make them look whiter, so when we scan a piece of that paper, especially with blue inks on it, the scanned colour goes all wonky*.

*Technical term.

And all of this explains why no one will ever come up with a perfect match for, say, MB Racing Green or PPS. Pen, paper, personal physiology and perception - there are just too many variables. It's still fun to try, though.

I wish I had access to a mass spectrometer, it would be interesting to run PPS through it. Anyone?

I'm guessing that they have one in one of the science labs on the Purdue side of campus. But I very much doubt they would let me anywhere near it. Humanists connected to Indiana U, I believe, are banned from the Purdue science laboratories. ;)

If not banned, certainly observed with deep suspicion and a healthy dose of scientific curiosity. "What IS that creature? Do you think it's capable of thought?" ;)

Sadly, most of the professors who would still let me loose in their labs have retired but I do have a couple of contacts at another nearby university. I'll make some calls. And maybe there will be someone reading this who happens to have one laying (lying?) around.

Quite right, too.

The only humanists who should be allowed anywhere near a science laboratory are archaeologists. (Carbon 14 testing and all that)

Thank you amber for inviting me to this comparison.

I have a few blues left which may not have been listed here:

Sailor souten

Iroshizuku tsuki-Yo (admittedly, doesn't look like these regular Blues at all)

Chelpark sapphire blue

So, place for me?

Did I send you a letter yet? Or pm you that I have sent it? I still have enough and will send, but I'm checking in. We'd love to have the comparisons.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I think the mix I just did is pretty dead on. Tell me what you think.
