Apparently humans perceive blues in super fine gradations (correct me if I'm wrong, science people!), because they all look so very different to me! I have 6 lined up, and two of these have been labeled as being closest to PPS. Can you pick the two closest out?

Inks revealed at a later date... :)

Here is the scan, color corrected with gray card:

And here is a view of the sheet of white Tomoe River paper, under flourescent light to reveal sheen and shading more clearly:

Pick out the two closest, three and five. (and my favorites are 1,2 and 4)

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

AAAARRRRRHHHHH! I think it's either #1 or #2. Mmmmm, I will take #2 (I hate you for doing this, Halloween). <---of course that is a jest, I think it is smashing fun.

That is very weird indeed. Your #37 looks purple next to PPS. My #37 is definitely much closer to the PPS on the sheet sent to me by Amberlea. In fact, it was quite difficult to tell the difference between the two.

To me, it has practically no magenta undertones (typical of many Sailor blue inks).

(I was also thinking that maybe the name "Island Blue" was also an indication that it was not intended to be a purple-blue - but what's in a name).

Another ink mystery.

I was thinking the same thing. Wow, the scanners must change it when the paper is that different. Island blue is not a blurple, but it appears blurple there.

Yes, a mystery, however,I don't believe I've seen it looking any different since I purchased this ink.

Uncanny. Yes, #3 and #5 were most often named the closest. Nicely done. :D

Thank you amber for inviting me to this comparison.

I have a few blues left which may not have been listed here:

Sailor souten

Iroshizuku tsuki-Yo (admittedly, doesn't look like these regular Blues at all)

Chelpark sapphire blue

So, place for me?

So what are #3 and #5?

The Dramatic REVEAL:

#1 = PR Electric DC Blue

#2 = Akkerman Shocking Blue

#3 = Noodler's Liberty's Elysium

#4 = de Atramentis Hyacinth

#5 = PR American Blue (PRAB)

#6 = Diamine Florida Blue

Whether or not the inks are close contenders, the sheen alone on them (except Florida) make them top choices for me.

Out of curiousity... are any of you guys near-sighted? Far-sighted? I cannot recall what the name of the book was but the author claims our vision affects our perception of color. *clears throat and puts on glasses*...

■far-sighted focuses on red/near-sighted focuses on blue

■blue is associated with distance and imagination

■red is associated with closeness and rationality

■in material space: blue is passive/red is active

■blue signifies a harmonious force associated with liberation and expansion

■red signifies a resistant force associated with ego, effort and excitation

The list went on but it came to mind after HJB started his experiment. Now I wonder if those who have normal eye-sight see purple/magenta as they are capable of seeing red and blue in equal tones.

Oh, my. This is getting very interesting!!

I think the logical and only reasonable answer is to buy one of each of them.
