Dallas Pen Show 2015

Sadly, we didn't meet any of the peeps from this board at the show...either day!

Maybe it was because we were everywhere. I ended up with 5 new pens (2 of the famous brand El-cheapo) and scads of ink (again...or AS USUAL). Saw some of the wonderful people from out of town that help make this a great show and met lots of new peeps!

It feels like a little family in that you know the vendors and look forward to seeing and visiting with them. You get hugs from the people you only get to see once or twice a year, you talk the talk and you shop!! What more could a girl ask for?? (Disregard last comment!)

Thank you to those that provided a few special surprises...you know what I'm talking about!! I feel a little rotten!! :D

...and THANK YOU to Danny and Perry for enabling me with just one more pen that I really didn't need, but love, love, love. Now, somebody make me write something!! :P

I'm already ready for next year!

It was a great time!! Thanks to all that helped make it that way and next year...

...we need to figure out how to get the FPN group together better!!

So, what's your point?

I was *this close* from pulling a trigger on a black-cap TWSBI Mini.

The Anderson Pen (?) has it on display along with its bigger cousins.

I didn't meet anyone from here either. In the beginning I did asked a lady who just walked out of the registration desk, and she said she didn't belong to online forums, probably thinking I was a stalker or something.

So I stopped asking people :D

Well, crud! SC and I had our special shirts on Friday, but that didn't help (although a few people knew OF my shirt! :P )

Saturday was the "Oh, you guys again...", day! :lticaptd: We say it every year, but next year we have to do a better job of identifying our FPN brethren.

We were doing lots of visiting at Anderson's and lusting after a gorgeous little Pelikan, so no wonder we also missed the TWSBIs!

BTW, Syd is an absolute delight to visit with!! Got to try the DecoBand pen and it is....it is.....aaauugh! Fa-bu-lous!!! We also talked some vintage Wahl and had a good ink giggle, too! Great guy!

Yes, the only TWSBIs I saw were at Anderson Pens. They had 580s and minis, but no Vac 700s or Ecos. I don't recall if they had any Classics.

Current Daily Carry: Pilot Custom 743 with 14k Posting nib (Sailor Kiwa-Guro), Sailor 1911L Realo Champagne with 21k Extra Fine nib (Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu). Platinum Century 3776 Bourgogne (Diamine Syrah), Nakaya Portable Writer Midori with 14k Extra Extra Fine nib (Lamy Peridot), Pilot Vanishing Point Stealth Black with Extra Fine nib unit (Pilot Blue Black), a dozen Nockco DotDash index cards of various sizes and a Traveler's Notebook.

Had a great time too - although it was short.

I usually go by on Friday night and do a general recon to figure out where I want to concentrate Saturday, but I wasn't able to get away from work in time. Then Saturday morning, I had to turn in a rent car and reclaim my own car. So I didn't get to the pen show till one o'clock. First stop to Danny to reset a nib on one vintage pen and lubricate the piston on another. Got to visit with Pakman and saw his newly acquired Parker 75 collection. I was on a quest for a particular 75 myself. Tim Pierson had been at a pen club meeting in the spring and had a 75 flighter with a broad stub - I wanted it but couldn't buy it then. So next stop was Tim's table - not only did he still have it, but he knew exactly where it was. Yea! Also spotted a pretty green striped duofold and bought that too. Checked Dromgoole's for the show ink, but I was too late this year. Next a couple of pen cases. Then ink and paper from the Andersons. I also wanted to look at the Edison Pearlette, to get a feel for the size and balance. Didn't buy it Saturday, but I dropped by to look at it so many times that Brian A joked he'd have to charge me a rental fee. It's on the wish list now. Saw two professional friends; one of them I already knew was a pen person, as we've talked fountain pens many times. The other was there with an co-worker; they were looking for a nice entry level pen, maybe a Safari, for co-worker. Visited with several folks from the pen club and a couple more vendors that I've become acquainted with over the years. Late in the afternoon, stopped by Indy-Pen-Dance to have a nib ground. I had volunteered to work the registration table for the last hour. There weren't too many people arriving after 4, but it was a chance to visit with a couple more pen club members. A good day as usual.

I bought the Red, White and Blue 580. Might have to get a M nib for it though.

Ah. Good point - I did see another 580 USA at a different table (the Andersons had one), but I don't recall which table it was.

I didn't see any TWSBI Ecos either, but I was so impressed with ScienceChick's with the 1.1 nib that I ordered one from JetPens, along with a Kokuyo Campus High Grade MIO Paper Notebook. I'm going to use the TWSBI for ink testing, since it can be taken apart and cleaned easily.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

The 1.1 mm stub on the Eco is a sweet nib. I gave one to a friend who has, like me, tended to favor the finer nibs in life. He has found it to be a revelatory experience. I have seriously thought about getting the whole range of Eco nibs to have an inexpensive but good ink testing set. Since there's a 1.5 mm nib for the Vac and 580, that may wind up being my choice, though. More expensive, but a wider range (and the 1.5 mm stub is a wonderful nib once you get used to working with it - I use it to sign marriage and baptism certificates and to do more "regular" writing)

And I thought I dropped the hat far enough to get out of that picture!

I did briefly meet ScienceChick - at a repair table ( I was getting some old pens checked out; two should be ok, one goes back to manufacturer, and one was quasi-hopeless.) She said hi because I had an odd ... pen... thingy that's been making some rounds in the mail. She'd already handled it and recognized it.

Then there was a question about a pen being checked out, and by the time I turned around she'd left. Missed opportunity on my part!

It's a bit difficult to meet up with people without a plan, or that's how it seems to work with me.

Ok. Since I can't find it and I know they were there. I need help.

At the show, several people were wearing stickers that had to do with teaching handwriting in school. I have Sull's program and I am going to begin using that for myself and my kids. But there were people who were everything about teaching it in schools.

Who were they or what is the website?
