Mixing Permanent Inks With Inks Which Are Not

I suspect this has been asked before.

Is it possible to get a waterproof/permanent ink mixture if one were to mix a permanent/waterproof ink with one which is not? I mixed Montblanc permanent gray with Lamy blue and ran water over it. The blue in the mix ran but the gray was substantially intact. I wonder if it is possible to achieve a substantially waterproof mixture in this way? I would be grateful if you can share your experiences. Thanks!

I know Noodles has several inks that are semi permanent. Usually they have perm. black in there. The other colors may wash away as you saw but the black will remain.

I don't know of a mix that will make that second color stay or change to permanent.

Nope, not by mixing in non-permanent inks (unless you start a chemical reaction between the dyes, probably not what is intended)

De Atramentis Document Dark Blue is a fantastic ink, but it keeps getting dry on my pen. So I mixed it up with Iroshizuku Tsuki Yo and now is perfect!

Well, yes and no. You can't get a completely water proof ink. However, you can get pretty darn close.

Noodler's Ghost blue will improve the longevity of almost any ink.

De Atramentis Document inks will improve the longevity of every ink that I have tried it with.

Remember to mix in small batches and avoid using anything that looks like it creates participate.

Remember, some dye may wash off, but you want the ink to bond with the paper in the event of a catastrophe.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
