Nib Creep On Lamy Al Star

HI,

I'm thinking of buying a Lamy Black Al star with a black nib and using it for school. Nib creep really irritates me, but my favorite ink- noodlers black is very prone to this. Anyone who has then pen and ink, can you tell me if the nib creep- if there is any- is noticeable on the black nib?

Thanks

Nib creep bothers me more than I thought it would when I got into fountain pens. For this reason I tend to steer away from Noodler's, nice as their colours are. On my Safari with a black nib, 54th Mass isn't terribly noticeable except when it catches the light right, then I can't see anything else until I give it a wipe. Still it's no where near as bad as on the silver nib.

I have a black Al-Star with black nib loaded with Sailor Kiwa Guro (black) and just looked at the nib under a strong light. There is some creep, but not noticeable to me without looking. It doesn't bother me, but you can see the ink if you look for it. Since the nib itself is black, it doesn't stand out as it would on a bright steel nib. I'd take a pic but it's late and the lighting is bad at moment. If no one has mounted a photo, I'll get around to it in the next 24 hrs...

I have the matte black Al-Star with both a fine and medium black nib. I use Noodler's Heart of Darkness and 54th Massachusetts, both very prone to nib creep because of the ink's properties. I don't find the creep all that noticeable on either nib with either ink. It's there, to be sure, so a black nib doesn't prevent the creepies, but does make nib creep tolerable.

Hope the helps.

Cheers,

Ryan

I have Noodler's X-feather in my black Lamy Safari and even tho I would not call it 'nib creep' (Diamine Pumpkin/Ancient copper way)

it does cover the steel nib in black all the time. If you care about aesthetic, then go with a black nib ;)

It's a little smudge of ink on the top of the nib near the slit where a tiny bit of ink leaked from the slit. Nothing to worry about- doesn't affect function in the slightest- but it's kinda ugly and bothers some people from an aesthetic point of view.

I haven't used Noodler's Black, but I can say that I can notice nib creep fairly easily on my black coated Safari nib.

Here to help when I know, learn when I don't, and pass on the information to anyone I can :)

Most of the time nib creep is an esthetic, but sometimes it can be very bad and detrimental. You'll know if you have bad nib creep as opposed to a line of ink on the top of the nib, I have some nib creep on my medium nib with Tsuki-yo on my Al-Star but almost none with the italic 1.1 I put on it. I got used to the line of ink on the med nib, and actually it looked pretty good, Blue Al-Star, silver nib and a blue ink line on the top, The Tsuki-Yo is a pretty close color match to the body of the pen.

So space and time are linked together. As we are looking across space, we are looking back in time. The further and further away those stars are the further back in time you are looking. Now you are seeing a star that is say six thousand years ago. Imagine somebody at that star looking at us They would be seeing us as we were six thousand years ago. Which of those two is now? - Alan Parsons Project The Time Machine - Temporalia (Paraphrased)

I've got M and 1.5 regular steel nibs and F and B black nibs. Nib creep is barely noticeable on the F but I can see it alright on the B. It's presently loaded with Lamy Blue Washable so it's the kind of thing that I only noticed because I looked for it, just like HDoug.

I think I'm the odd man out here, as I kinda like nib creep. I find it cool-looking when I'm using one of my regular "silvery" steel nibs and load the AL-Star with Lamy Red. It looks like the pen's bleeding, heh-heh! B)

Who knows what ink lurks in the hearts of pen? The Shadow knows!

My Lamy All-star creeps a lot. When I first got it and was using the cartridges not so much but when I went to the converter things got bad. It started with Lamy brand ink then I went to various Noodler's Bulletproofs and De'Atramentis Document ink all in green it got even worse. Today I noticed that after not using the pen for a while (I got a new one to try out) I uncapped it and the nib was wet like it had sweated. No Idea why the Lamy does this, the other pen doesn't have that problem. Honestly I thought something was wrong with the pen at first but now I hear its a regular thing with certain nibs and inks. Still doesn't make me like it any more though :)
