If you have pens you like, use them a lot, and make sure you know what you like and dislike about them before moving on to others.

I would have recommended a pair of Platinum Plaisirs in fine (also my advice to anyone coming along looking for ideas). The Plaisir is lightweight, attractive, durable (aluminum barrel and cap), and reliable. It writes fairly dry, and doesn't have the section facets that the Lamy Safari does, or the large step between barrel and section that the Pilot Metropolitan does. It also has a plastic section, so no eyedropper conversions, and it CAN break in two under enough stress.

I also use lousy paper, so I suggest Heart of Darkness for your ink. It will stand up to any solvent you run across in the lab, it's fairly quick to dry, and IMX, it is pretty resistant to feathering. You'll have to buy either a pair of converters or a syringe to refill the cartridges, as Platinum uses a proprietary cartridge. (Parkers do too, but they're more readily available in the US.)

I also have Bad Black Moccasin, and IMX, it feathers a lot more than HoD.
