Deccan "major" Eyedropper

Hello friends ,

Once again Baaz is back with a new Indian pen , The Deccan "Major" fountain pen

This wonderful pen was gifted to be by my friend and our fellow fpn member "Hari317"

The pen is manufactured by renowned Indian brand , Deccan pens from Hydrabad .

Design details :

Classic cigar shape, ebonite body having very thick cross sections. Overall a durable, sturdy, long lasting design , perfect for a very long trouble free usage.

This is a regular pocket size pen , perfect for a user with small or medium hands.

Cap : Ebonite black colored cap with brushed finish.Rounded on top with glossy finish. Cap unscrews in just one and half turn, perfect for daily office use.Gold plated clip is ok for any kind of fabric.

Section : Smoothly finished section with slightly inner curvature .Comfortable for long writing sessions without fatigue.

The most distinct feature of the section is it's threading. The manufacturer used "Buttress" threads for both barrel and section.

This thread is extremely proved useful to prevent burping/leakage.There is very close fitting between barrel and section.Comparison with V threads is done in attached picture.

Barrel : Barrel is having thick cross section making it sturdy.Brushed finish, end of barrel is made with shiny finish.

As mentioned earlier , Barrel is having Buttress threads instead of regular "V " threads .Similar threads can be seen in toot paste tube and its cap .

Nib and feed : This pen is fitted with German make "Schmidt" medium nib unit. So there is no doubt about quality .A butter smooth nib.It lays down nice wet lines . Writing example attached . Its a fine finned feed , In addition to buttress threads.Due to this unique combination , there is absolutely no blobbing/burping.Writing example attached .

Filling system : Eyedropper filled

Cost : No idea , as its a gift

Conclusion : It is nice to see fusion of tradition and modern engineering techniques in this pen .I feel Indian ebonite fans must go for this pen .Once again Thanks a lot Hari .....

Hope u all will enjoy this review

Sincerely ,

BAAZ

That looks like what I know as a Bullet Sr. I've seen two versions, matte and glossy, and have one of both. Very good writers, IMO. Enjoy!

Nice review and an interesting pen. I have a couple that are similar and love the material and finishing. If the nib works well, they're a joy to use.

Baaz, I have one Bullet junior and two seniors. The junior is much shorter than the seniors - in fact it has about the length of the matte portion of the matte senior. I haven't used it since I got the seniors - it's uncomfortable to use unposted, and posting does seem to leave a mark on the barrel. Bit of a dilemma...

Does any fpn member know more about cerating "brushed"finish for ebonite ?

After the pen is just machined, this finish is given using a file and coarse emery paper . This technique avoids the laborious polishing and hides surface imperfections due to material defects. .
