Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us! - 2015-Ii

My first sketch for many a month and this one goes out to Sinistral1.

I've often wondered if I chose the wrong ink between Sailor Brown Algae and Sailor Cigar.

Still not sure, but I knew going to The Henry Moore Foundation for an afternoon to see his incredible bronze sculptures that Brown Algae had to come along too.

The way its colours split into greens and blues and yellows when washed was perfect. Glad I made time after lunch for this quick sketch. More to come soon that I've broken my dry spell . . .

So, how do you know what size the nib actually is?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Nice pictures! I am also interested in the ink combo, what is that like?

The colour is a very strong blue, like a steel blue and is not fading after is drying. Here is a sample written with a Bexley, fine nib.

Beautiful in so many ways!

I still love your sketches

Well, I had three 146s with different nib sizes (F,M,B) and this is wider than my B stub.

I had the Fine nib tuned so it was definitely a fine and then compared line widths and checked nib tipping sizes cart on nibs.com too. Only Pelikan is listed there, but it was still helpful.

That's all I know...

Here's a pic from a shootout I'm working on:

Thomas Earnshaw? Not known to me... Is he an indie penmaker?

At first I thought you had an ST Dupont there...

Nice looking pen.

Thanks RMN, It is really nice and I'm delighted with it.

There's a story behind it which I'll explain in a separate thread tomorrow (with more pics) but I believe that (Thomas) Earnshaws are a jeweller well known for their watches and they have a range of accessories, wallets, cufflinks, pens etc to complement their watch ranges.

No doubt they have someone make the pens for them, who? i have no idea, but I do know the pen has a "quality" look and feel about it.

It is certainly well made, writes beautifully and looks really quite elegant.

And..... Laura bought me it, so it was immediately a "special" pen.

Great sketches, Tas! Henry Moore's work can only be described as a Master's Class in drawing 3-D shapes and shadow. Great job.

I've been writing so much recently as I'm beginning to learn Copperplate with dip pens and an oblique holder that when I went to write these my hand felt different. Very different kinds of muscle memory for my hands. I don't want to lose one as I gain another, which just means more practice for both.

Nice photos of two of my favorite pens. I look forward to seeing the results of the shootout; just don't get caught in the crossfire!

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Just came across a nice vintage Mabie Todd Swan 142/32 with the prettiest cap I've seen for a while. The nib is very nice with a bit of flex for those of us who like that sort of thing... :D

Halloween, I love that pen, and your flex writing! I inked up a few blues and I'm thinking of doing a HUGE Co-Razy-View - 40 different inks each compared to Parker Penman Sapphire. Would you be in?
