(Brause 361 ..... Rohrer & Klingner Ausziehtusche Gold)

It´s really difficult to get a picture as this Gold is so bright (especially with artificial light), most of the time you can´t see anything on the picture.

IMHO, it does count! Ancient Copper and a truck... You made my day!

Brilliant.

You bet.

Looking forward to seeing some more . . . :)

Thank you all for the enthusiastic support!

I am trying to use sketching as the means to exercise my fountain pens.

Still have a lot to learn, but I'm having a lot of fun.

Lots of great pens and nibs there, folks!

I am still in Parker 51 mode:

The only way I'd take this to work is if I ate lunch at my desk or had a desk safe.

Maybe too bright. But I like it anyway.

Eli, thanks for doing the writing sample of Red Dragon with your cream paper. I really like your cheerful smiley dragon!

The colour of the ink does look bright in your sample. I think the ink colour is heavily dependent on pen/nib and paper, and it just shows how different the same ink can look under different conditions. For me this is the first time that I felt I finally found a great matching pen for my Red Dragon ink so I am sure you will see different results with different pens too!

So I Am using my first Bird i ever bought today...

Pelikan M200 Cognac with Bold Italic Nib, Inked with Montblanc Toffee Brown

Vaibhav (I just figured out that this is your first name - I'm rather slow), another great pairing of ink and pen. So what is your impression of your first bird? Do you like the M200 size, or would you prefer larger? I love the great shading the Toffee Brown is showing with the italic nib.

I'm sorta new here (and new to fountain pens in general).

Does this count as showing how a pen is used?

:W2FPN: I love your pen & ink drawing! I think it is a great way to use your pen.

Is Ed who supplied your pumpkin(s) this year? I like his truck.

We are in a completely opposite season to you, so we carve watermelons for Halloween and Santa comes on a surfboard with Rudolf the dolphin in tow. :D

I don't own one, but I have tested one and the M200 is the perfect size for my smaller hands. It's a terrific pen and one day I will own one. I really LOve the White Tortoise color, it's a winner in every way and the only German pen I lust after at the moment. Modern Mont Blanc's, aside from the over the top pricing, don't have any appeal to me. For the most part, I'm a Japanese pen kinda gal. I try others, but my heart remains in Japan. It's all about the nibs, especially the soft ones.

JMHO, your mileage may vary of course.

Actually Ed's Farm was chosen because of its short name :D

I'm writing with a straight holder from Steve Engen over at http://dippens.net/ and a Leonardt Principal nib. I'm working on a few things, but I am mostly using Rohrer & Klingner Königsblau and a Rhodia No.12 pad for the outlines and basic notes. I did not much care for the Leonardt Principal at first, but I have come around and now consider it one of my favorite steel pens.

I am in no way associated with dippens.net or Steve Engen, but I can not say enough good things about his pen holders and his customer service. The holders look a little plain on his web site, but they are amazing in real life. The pictures on his site are not bad, but they do not fully capture how well made and interesting his holders really are. When I received the holder that I am using today, I was pleasantly surprised by how thick and large it was. I knew the dimensions, but I still did not appreciate my pen holder's true size until it was in my hand. He frequently updates his site with new holders, but he also frequently sells out, so checking in often is a must if you are interested in purchasing from him.

I have to admit that I only purchased my holder because of the contrast between the bone collar and the main darker wood at the grip section (I can not recall what wood was used, I believe that it was bubinga), but I have been using it for a while now and couldn't be happier.

Ok these are the tools, but you forgot to add a result.....

Do you use the ink as is or do you add Gum Arabic to make it stickier?

Nice! EoC has 4 of Mr Engen's lovely holders and it must be said that they are all very interesting and fun to use. Good prices too! Might have to add a bone version to the collection. EoC sometimes uses Salix with a steel dip pen and it works very well with no added gummy bears, so much so that this one was considering some other inks from the stable of Messrs Rohrer & Klingner.

I couldn't put what I am working on up as it is a commission for someone else and involves some proprietary information. I was going to write something else up for the post, but then I had to walk the dogs and I just lost the will to create.

I do not use any gum, if an ink doesn't work well with my pen then I just find something else that does. I have plenty of pigment based inks that I can use without any alterations. Fortunately, Rohrer & Klingner Königsblau works exceptionally well with just about every nib and paper combination that I have tried it on (so much so that it is one of the inks that I regularly rotate into my dinky dips). R & K inks and Chesterfield Archival Vault ink are really the only fountain pen inks that I regularly use with dip pens; most others that I have tried tend to be hit or miss.

E_o_C, I snorted when I read the gummy bear bit. I used to drop gummy bears into pop bottles when I was younger (they didn't alter the flavor, I just thought it was funny). Right after reading your comment I had a vision of dropping a gummy bear into a bottle of ink...that made me chuckle too (not so much the dropping it in as the reaction I would get from showing people a bottle of ink with a gummy bear inside).

Eli, is the Liliput a vintage one?

I like it too, I like small pens in general.

What experience do you have with Chinese Pens.

I only have one, a Jinhao 159 and this was not really a good experience in the beginning.

Btw. great pictures and a fantastic nib shot.

Attila, why did Nr. 5 scared you that way.

I liked him quite a lot he is really funny guy and always wanted to learn something when he demanded input, only his companions were scary.

Great picture as usual :)
