Thought I'd post a couple of shots of my latest acquisition, a Graf von Faber Castell Classic.

This is a pen I was seriously lucky enough to win on eBay a little while ago. I bought it from a new seller who took and presented some awful photos of it. So awful that they looked exactly like the kind fraudsters use to sell fakes. I contacted the seller and asked for some clearer shots which she happily provided. These pens sell for around £450 yet I won it for £92 delivered. The pen had only been used for ½ a cartridge. Woo boohoo !!

I must've spent a whole weekend (in fact more as I waited for a bottle of Pelikan Royal Blue to arrive) trying to find an ink match for it. Easily tried twenty or so inks.

Diamine Salamander won in the end.

The pen is a absolute delight to use. Very heavy but so perfectly balanced that you never notice and you never want to put the thing down - I've "over egged" many a sketch by doing too much.

I was completely wrong about metal sections, this pen is a joy joy joy to use. The nib is an EF and writes with a nuance of line variation and brings out shading from almost any ink. It sketches wonderfully too.

Serious pen, beautiful sketch. Delightful!

Oh gosh, don't say that about metal sections, Tas - it's saving me a ton of money by having them on my list of must not haves...! Lovely looking pen, though, and your sketch has almost convinced me to like Salamander, which I didn't think possible.

600th Anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt today; surely no better time to break out The Bard than Crispin's Day:

Just learning to use a pointed nib. This is a Nikko G in a Michael Sull pen, that I purchased during the class I took at The San Francisco Pen Show this August. The background is the work surface of my metalsmith bench. My other obsession...designing jewelry in Metal Clay,

Note To Self: Must learn to take better photos of handwriting

(Montblanc 144 - BB ..... Diamine Blue Lightning)

The Blue Lightning is difficult to capture in the evening using artificial light.

When I try to balance the white then the writing almost disappears because of the heavy particle reflections.

Beside Attila I see nobody which have constant highest quality shots.

That elephant clip looks really cool in the background, what pen is it on, and is there any chance of a close-up? :)

Both the pen and the Salamander look great. It goes without saying that your sketch is as always fantastic Tas. :) You're a lucky man in more ways than one!

Now that's a nice shot Grainweevil, normally I don't give this pen a second glance... nice lighting, and nice choice of ink to go with the pen. :)

I like grey inks, which one did you use here httpmom? Do oblique pens take a lot of getting used to?

Tas, Ptero, Attila, line, and httpmom, thank you for your kind encouragements. I’ll keep plodding on with my practice sketches.

To those who have been using Parallel Pens: Please forgive my ignorance but do they have a top or the bottom of the nib? Where is the breather hole? I watched the YouTube video Tas has linked but I don’t understand how the ink comes out? Please enlighten me, as I seem to be having a blank brain moment. I am very interested in these pens with such crisp flat lines they can produce.
Noihvo: Happy 30th birthday. That was very nice of your work to give you a present. I like the look of the blue and gold too.
Wxman2000: Thanks for the writing sample! Your Parker and Sheaffer both seem to give you nice clean lines.
Tas: Your Classic is beautiful! It’s such an understated, classy bling. I love it. Your Salamander ink sketch and the washed effect of high and low value areas are wonderful!
httpmom: I really like how your handwriting looks. And that marble effect oblique holder is a gem!

Amberlea, what's the pink ink? The mean-looking nib and the soft pink of the ink is a nice contrast.

I had dismissed Red Dragon after using it once or twice a while ago, because it was not as interesting as Oxblood or Syrah but I used this ink in another pen and WOW I love it this time. This ink likes really wet writing pen I think. The colour deepens a lot and it becomes much more interesting. I am going to keep this combo going for a while. :)

YES, absolutely! Love the color of that ink, and it combines beautifully with that pen!

Next time, try that ink on the cream paper, and see what you think... :)
