Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us! - 2015-Ii

The Walnut ink is a powder you mix with water to make a dip pen ink. I get mine from John Neal Booksellers. You can get it premixed, but it's significantly more expensive and exactly the same stuff as the crystals, just water and a bottle added. I got a 1 oz bag and it will last me for quite a while. You use basically about 1.25 ml (about 1/4 tsp) in 30 ml (about an ounce) of water. That doesn't put a very big dent into even the 1 oz bag of crystals.

I think I got my walnut ink crystals from the same source as you, Andrew. I mixed mine in a small 20ml jar a long time ago. It's been so long I did any dip pen practice so I wasn't 100% sure if the ink mix was still good but I just opened the jar and dipped a bit into it, and amazingly it still looks and smells fine. I wonder if Walnut ink has some natural biocide properties in it to prevent funky fuzzballz growing in there? It's amazing stuff.

mehandiratta, just to make sure, the walnut ink is only for dip pens and can't be used in fountain pens as far as I know. You can adjust the colour by adding more or less H2O in the mix. I like it because it feels old fashioned and when I have a dip pen in my hand it kind of feels like they go very nicely together, a bit like how I love using iron gall inks in vintage pens. Here is a quick phone camera snap.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I remember I liked it, but couldn't remember exactly the colour, hence my looking for your post - unsuccessfully.

No matter, it's only ink :) .

Diderot, I think someone posted a writing sample with David's ink mix fairly recently. I think it was within the last month or so? It might have been Suji as I have the image of Suji's "Hello" in my mind along with the mention of David's ink mix. I could be wrong. Could have been skysora. I love both of their writing styles.

Joe, I like the pen case you have. I remember seeing someone else using the same one (maybe a bit bigger? I can't remember) and wondering about the material it was made of. Is the fabric soft inside where the pens touch? It looks like a really functional design.

There are a variety of these cases for may different types of pen/paper carry.

The outside is made of what feels like nylon canvas, and the inner lining is a much smoother, silkier material, like what a camping tent is made of. It protects pens very well. They come in a ton of colors, too.

When I wanted a three pen case, as I like to have three pens at all times, I found that this was, by far, the most affordable option while still getting a quality, hand-stitched product made by a fellow pen enthusiast as an added bonus.

I'm not sure if you have heard of Brad Dowdy, but he runs The Pen Addict blog. It deals with all types of pens, not just fountain, but it's a great blog. He runs Nock co, as well.

I know I keep repeating myself about this ink, and it's old news and everyone's tired of hearing about it, but every time I write with it I just get excited again.

I have a couple of NOCK products, one same as shown in J8....'s image a plus a smaller one that perfectly holds a single pen and a Clairefontaine 3586C notebook in my shirt pocket. Nock's service and communication are good too. I can also get my IPHone 4 in there but it becomes a heavy combo. (Not affiliated with NOCK, Clairefontaine or Apple).

Thanks for the details of your pen case Joe, I will look into their products line. They look really nice, especially the various colours! I have been using leather cases so far but they are quite limited in the area of bright colours.

I think I am looking for a light weight pen case for one or two pens for my handbag carry pens, that doesn't take up much space and there seems to be quite a few options so I will keep looking. Thanks for your feedback on these cases.

This whole page is full of drool worthy and beautifully characterful hand writing samples! I love looking at pretty pens, but I love even more to look at people's handwriting and inks and the different lines from various nibs!!

Thank you everyone, and have a great weekend! :)

Hi SNAK - great-looking new pen. I'm familiar with BB, but what is BBL?
