Stunning pens!

Thought I'd put some ink in this one.

I wish I could afford a decent pen, but alas I cannot.

Goodness gracious! Why on earth wouldn't you consider a Skyline to be a decent pen??? They're classics!

I don't feel confident with vintage pens anymore. I know that must sound crazy.

Why?

Too many sub-standard experiences with vintage pens and sellers*, and in one memorable case a spectacularly offensive restorer.

*the balance ratio is about 1 good transaaction to 4 bad ones.

Oh, goodness. Very sorry to hear that. My ratio is about the opposite of yours, or perhaps even better than that. Luck of the draw, I imagine. Though, perhaps being a reprehensible human being myself, I'm somewhat armored against other miscreants. :-)

Nooo, believe me, you've got it right ! Leave all that accurate stuff to the architects etc.

Massive fan :)

Thanks for your really kind words, Tas.

Houston, I'm glad to hear that someone else is still using the good old D90! It sounds like you have most everything, so maybe you could get a new (or old) macro lens to help with nib shots? I would personally LOVE to see your gorgeous pens up close and personal! :)

I really like the colour of that ink and the lines your pen is putting out. Did you put any dye on the Gfeller cover? It looks like a nice amber colour.

- Gimena Erica - F

- Sailor Imperial Back - F

- Pelikan M205 - italic 2.0

The 2.0mm on your M205 looks juicy! I have the same nib but haven't even tried it as I was struggling with Pelikan's 1.5mm, and I found it to be much thinner and sharper than the Lamy's and Kaweco's italic in the same width.

Thanks, limt.

Here's a test with the Pilot Elabo (SF), which arrived in the mail today. Ink is Shin-Kai, paper is Tomoe River.

Nice pen, nicer writing. I really enjoy seeing handwritten posts, though I usually a bit shy about putting them up myself (did one or two only). How did you find the nib on this one?

I'm going to assume this was directed at me - excuse me if I'm being presumptuous. :)

I got the soft-fine nib, which feels like a very precise instrument when I'm doing normal writing. It's not scratchy, but there's definitely feedback. The much-touted flex is there, but it's still a stainless steel Japanese nib, and much more rigid than vintage gold flex nibs. The pen I received railroads a bit when I try to flex it. Not as badly as the Noodlers' flex pens, but just in the short bit of writing in the photo, it railroaded twice. This doesn't bother me so much. What's more annoying is that it takes quite a bit of pressure to get good line variation out of the SF, and I feel like I'm in danger of scratching/piercing the Tomoe River paper when I'm dragging it across the sheet.

Yes, it was directed at you, and no you were not being presumptuous. I should have been more explicit.

Interesting comment about the SF nib. Not seen or used one myself. Always like to hear opinions though. Outside of dip pens I don't really have anything properly flexy. Actually, I do have a Blackbird that is quite soft, but that's all. I don't know if that is you in your avatar, if it is and you are a writer of Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters perhaps the nib behaves better then, compared to western script?

Yay to your first post on FPN! :W2FPN:

I love the look of the leather cover for your pad.

Sorry - for some reason, the photos refuse to be shown the right way up!
