How does one source one of these frankies? I've been after a truly flexible fountain pen for quite some time but I'm not prepared to pay the several hundred dollars that is often asked.

Isn't your Waterman #7 red keyhole nib flexible? If not try my PIF for add flex to your TWSBI 580 or a demonstrator pen that you like.

Edited to add: I never thought I'd buy a pen that is older than I am, but I guess it was only a matter of time before I found one in blue. *grin*

Um, no. That's a Waterman 94 pen and I don't know how the #7 designation for the nib works in this case. Either way it is not a flexible nib - pretty much a nail really - which is a huge disappointment. It is the most expensive pen I have ever bought, more than I could realistically afford, and I jumped at the chance because my limited understanding suggested it would be flexible. What a fool I was. It writes very smoothly and consistently, but it is not what I wanted at all. It is one of the very few fountain pens I have left.

This old thing again today.

Edit: although I will say this myself, this is without doubt the best photograph I have ever taken in my life. Considering I have no skills and no equipment it shows that anything is possible. I still don't quite know how I got it to work. There is no post-processing either (I think that's the right term, yes?).

Of course. It is Maruzen (Nihombashi) Athena Mirin. This ink is, I believe, no longer available to buy. I was very fortunate because, as undeserving as no doubt I am, migo984 sent me a sample to try.

I'm thinking seriously about getting a Custom 823 or 845 with the 15 size WA nib. That Pilot BB ink is beautiful.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Thank you! I was just asking because it seemed similar to the Diamine Umber.

I really love the WA nib, so I would highly recommend it. And Pilot BB is a wonderful ink! It seems almost underrated nowadays...

Yeah, I've never really understood that. I always thought that Umber was a brown colour not green.

A decent writer, the Hero 616, but I prefer my Parkers.

(That ink color, though... just lovely. This photo doesn't do it justice.)

Oh! I love the fact that you know the story of this beautiful pen and that it is kept in the family :)
