Yeah the Pelikan is great! Wet, springy, with feedback. Lovely to write with, but quite fragile and temperamental with flow - I bought the Platinum 3776 in order to retire the 140 from daily carry, and so far it seems similar, in a sort of modern vs vintage way. It's got a springy nib with feedback, and so far I'm loving it! It cost me almost four times as much as the 140 tho! Shhhh!

Of the others I'd highly recommend you check out the Montblanc 14 and other two digit models. Because of the styling (I suppose) they're not as sought after as other vintage MB and so do not command the same premium, but the writing experience / nibs are just lovely!

I'm getting nothing on the Montblanc 14, is it new? Vintage? Got a link?

Vintage, manufactured in the 60s, replaced the 144 at that time

I decided to test gaudy, tactless, hence tacky, my new TLP, (True Love Pen), in a somewhat colorful setting, that being an abalone shell. Didn't work, I still only see the pen.

Vintage. Have a snoop on flee bay, the 14 as well as other models of that time (12,2x,3x) pop up on auction and sometimes go quite cheap.

@Highbinder - Thanks, I already had it on my list. Flee Bay indeed, if only I could. Nah! You know, a person could accidentally get quite a pen education on this thread.

Oh, yeah, I totally love the pen, but I thought it was quiet and subtle.

PS, I live in Las Vegas.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Pterodactyls

Just got my parallel per your suggestion. It is very wet writer. Which ink should I use so it doesn't rain Ink? And dries fast without bleeding? Pilot right?

Whole nib unit plugs right into the pen metal collar. Used Teflon tape twice around for seal. Easy. Done. Now, use only neutral ink.

Can I add my vote for vintage 2-digit Montblancs too? I have a MB 12 with an OB nib that is so lovely to write with. They hold surprisingly good amount of ink too, for their slim body.

Morning coffee. The Lamy is inked with Zhivago and the Monte Verde is sporting Black Swan in Australian Roses (original recipe). The stylus is from The Friendly Swede.

Didn't want to clutter the shot but next to me on the end table is my Pilot Vanishing Point filled with Waterman Blue-Black and my Twisbi 580 with a Hunter Green mix (4 parts Waterman Green and 1 part Blue-Black).

Regards,

V.

My newest additions just arrived so I did a quick group shot :)

I have that same Jinhao. It is such a workhorse for me. Always an easy start-even when I leave it for a week in my backpack during a school break. It hangs on my lanyard while teaching.

Yeah it's a great pen! At least, the first one I got is - I've bought 3 since as gifts and QC is inconsistent. Mine is firm but surprisingly smooth. It is a total workhorse, I agree, I carry it as my backup pen every day. I use it for copier paper as my other pens are either a bit fine (and so scratchy) or a bit to broad and wet (and so feathery)

SNAK, Pira, and Eli, thank you for the comment on my last sketch.

Today, I have two seemingly unrelated events:

1. I just finished grinding a large Penman nib to my liking, a Medium Cursive Italic with sharp distinction between thin and thick, sharp enough to render Majuscule Gothic capitals

2. I have an Esterbrook nib collar with a steel Wearever nib. Don't ask. I didn't put it there, and can't fathom how that can be a good idea

So I put 1 and 2 together.

Now I have an Esterbrook collar with a Penman Cursive Italic nib which I can use on any Esterbrook pens (way superior to the body where the Penman nib came with).
