Pen: Nakaya Mini Decapod (Jyukkaku Piccolo) in Aka-Tame Nuri with Flexible Oblique Music nib modified by Mr. Mottishaw

SNAK, what a magnificent nib! I have a Decapod in Shiro-tamenuri with one of John's stubs, and another on the way. I think the next one will be like yours.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Pilot Custom Heritage 823 Amber with an EF nib that I suspect was swiped from a 743. The quote is on the matter of patience, a sore point for me at the moment as I have ordered a Conid Bulkfiller and am insanely excited to see it!

I highly recommend John's Oblique Music modification.

I requested the ink flow to be maximised (and the music nib is already wetter than usual) and I love how smooooooth it glides on the paper. When I asked for flexible oblique just to bring the stiffness of the nib down a bit, I was warned that with 2-slits music nibs he can't take too much off from the back of the nib for structural issues but I asked for the best he could do for that nib, and he managed to put in just enough springiness to the nib for extra fun.

I'm terrible. I asked for the regular flat top titanium model, but with a clear rather than black grip, and am so impatient that I used their photos to mock up an 'artiste's impression' of how my baby will look! Nope, I have no shame. B)

Diamine Wagner in a vintage Brause Iserlohn 3050 pen (phanne 50 nib) on LIFE paper. While a good note taking pen for for me it's not one I'd want to write with for an extended period of time. It was mostly inked-up to draw my weekly Theme entry down in the FPN basement.

SNAK ~ first off...gorgeous pen & nib. Seriously beautiful. And..no. The mouse was just me getting distracted while practicing writing and is a perfect example of how I procrastinate.

I love those slices and I'm going to try something very similar.

Love the procrastinating, where would I be without it. Never put off till tomorrow anything that can be put off till the day after tomorrow.

Especially for this post I inked up my tiniest pen but one of my best to write my answer with a worthy pen.

Yes it´s tiny and very lightweighted , but it´s probably the best full flex nib I own.

It writes amazing and the flex is superb.

Sometimes these old Waterman tend to be way too wet, but this pen is perfect, it´s wet but not too wet, no railroading at all, you can write with it at full speed and it always keep up, not a single thought is needed about the pen and how to handle it.

I love it, the pen and my hand merge to one unit when I write with it.

Agreed. I have found several really nice semi-flex or flex nibbed pens for between $125 and $250. Yes, it's a lot of money for most people, but it is an investment in a writing instrument that should last you your lifetime, if they have been professionally restored.

This pen, not one of the top-of-the-line pens, is rather nice and has a very appealing nib. As well as looking splendid, it writes nicely. $125.

Please bear in mind that investing that kind of money in 1 pen is financially impossible for many if not most of our members.!

Ptero,

fpn_1449442521__reply.jpg

Threw this page onto the photcopier at work. Didn't turn out quite as planned, but worth a try.

If it helps any, you should think of EoC as uneducated and quite low class. It's okay, it's what a lot of people say so there must be some truth in it.

EDIT: Drat! Just bid $150 on a lovely Pelikan 400NN with a semiflex EF nib from a reputable eBay dealer. It sold for $152, aargh! EoC would have paid that as it compares very favourably to prices on dealer websites.

I don´t think you are uneducated and low class, I have read a lot of your postings and these are not the postings of such a person.

I really appreciate your posts, but when it comes to this vintage flex nib thing I always have the impression you miss some self confidence (where I see no reason why this should be the case). :)

The Pelikan 400NN are fantastic writers, I consider them as some of the best pens ever made.

But they are only semi flex, you can get a lot more flex from a EMF modified FPR nib.

And you still have your amazing dip nib implanted pens, which also gives you great writing results.

Yes, I believe that I made that point quite clearly. I do bear in mind the financial limits of many/most members, and I apologize if my post was taken as insensitive or callous.

Sorry, cannot get the scanner to give better resolution.

The dip nib implants have died. They were really fun while they lasted but it was a temporary solution at best. Interestingly enough EoC actually used one at work as a daily writer before metal fatigue killed it. EoC has absolutely no fears about using a flexible nib, only about being able to acquire one.

Thank you for the kind comments too.

The Pelikan was a good one, but the auction ended seconds after 12 noon here, and this one's work does not allow eBay until then. EoC thought the price would go much higher, considering that Penguin Pens sells the same pen at double the price, and was not quick enough to get a better bid in.

Better luck next ime, eh!
