Should The Platinum 3776 Century Nib Unit Come Out?

Hello,

I read in a review of this pen that the nib unit is not supposed to come out.

However, my nib and feed comes out without even a tug. I just have to pull it out casually. Is this supposed to be a bad thing?

Not a bad thing. The newer ones (there was an older design prior to this which was really tight) are indeed quite easy to pull out. Just don't pull out your nib often(there is actually no need to pull the nib out under normal circumstances), the plastic sleeve that holds the nib and feed together might lose its elasticity and then it is a problem.

I didn't actually. I stumbled upon it. Like I said, it comes out quite easily and I was just examining the nib and acidentally pulled it out and was confused.

I thought you also got the nib unit out by just pulling...

well you can pull out the nib and feed but the sleeve should not come with it... if it did then you have to send it back cause that thing is supposed to be threaded into the section just like most major pens now a days

My 3776 nib & feed came out on its first flushing and gentle wiping. I panicked because I read somewhere that the nibs are particularly delicate and should only be removed with extreme care. Anyway, I was very gentle and it was fine, but it has happened a few times since.

Thanks Your feedbacks were quite a relief. This is the easiest a feed has come out of my pen. Btw, the same thing happened to me!

I agree, merrycitrine. I've never had a nib come out so easily before. I wondered if it was a fault with my pen, but it seems to be fine. It's a lovely nib.

I recently got a Century 3776. Its nib & feed can be pulled out very easily. As long as this does not happen by accident I wouldn't care much.

Yay! I was concerned about whether I got a faulty unit initially, due to the earlier post. (It is my first expensive pen, so I was a bit paranoid).

She was writing with it just fine for a couple months, then it started leaking ink around the nib and when she went to wipe it gently, the nib unit fell out. I've put it back in for her, but it comes out way too easily. I've called the Platinum USA office a few times but nobody ever answers the phone and no way to leave messages. I wrote an email to Engeika (where I bought the pen) and am waiting for a response.

 

Anybody have any luck in getting one of these fixed?

When i push it in its nothing holding it together. The friction fit has no friction at all.

No problem writing, its just extremely easy to remove.

I don't think its actually a problem with the pen. Mine doesn't actually come out when I write, it's just surprisingly easy to get it out, I think I got mine out while trying to wipe the nib with a tissue (holding it with the tissue). However, if yours comes out while you write or turn the pen upside down, you should get it exchanged! I have heard Engeika takes a long time to respond to emails regarding issues. If you bought this from ebay, you should threaten to report to paypal, and he will respond right away. Good luck!

Four of five new 3776's have crossed my hands in the past year and all of them have had nib+feeds that are easy to pull out compared to my Pilots or Sailors. Having said that, it has not affected my writing experience with them, and the nib and feeds have yet to suddenly pop out mid-writing.

I have three of these pens and only one has the 'easy removal' feature. I never noticed before so will try another fill of ink and see what happens. I'll keep you all posted, as it were.

Like my new 3776 Bourgogne Century. Nib come out very very easily while wiping gently the nib. And the feed turns around it self while I am writing.

Because the nib not fit tightlyn in section. There is a small distance between the inner wall of the section and the feed. From this small gap the air penerates and the pen leaks.

This is soooo odd, because I just pulled mine out two days ago.

 

Didn't mean to. Was just wiping the nib after changing colors in the cart and POP. Out came nib, feed, and all. I hastily stuck it back in and really hope it stays put.
