Antique Store Finds

I was in Karachi on June 1 to attend an official meeting and it so happened that I couldn't find a seat for my journy back to Islamabd on any flight in the evening. So I said to myself why not visit some antique stores for finding some good old pens. When I reached the antique market I asked for the one shop owner that has been supplying me with some good pens in the past. I didnt expect to find any pens with him since he had already sent me some pens in the last week of May. Well , I found his shop and after letting me have a cup of tea we came to the subject of pens. He said he has two boxes of some very old pens that were collected by his dad but since these were in very bad shape he didnt think these would be of any interest to me. I said let me see. And , lo and behold. A treasure of pens but extremely dirty as if left to themselves for ages.

To cut the story short I selected these pens and asked him how much he would charge for these? He said would Rs.40,000 (approximately $400) be appropiate? Well , I paid him the money and wanted to take the pens and leave. But he insisted I have dinner with him and I agreed. We had a nice meal and then he accompanied me to my hotel room and before leaving he also gifted me a Silver Lustre Sonnet ballpoint.

Here are the pens after initial cleaning.

Forgot to mention all the pens are equipped with original metal squeeze converters. Both the Parkers and Sheaffers. And the only steel body Waterman student pen too.

That is a great treasure trove of pens, Mitto! I think you did very well. Before and after pictures would really show off your good eye.

Congratulations ! You have a wonderful deal .These are nice pens and difficult to find as they have become classic . I live in Karachi and dont know such an antique shop unfortunately despite my regular "hunting".

Dr.sab ! I wouldn't tell you where that antique market is. Lol. Since you being a Karachite can yourself locate it. But tell you one thing ; Karachi has been the source of supply of good pens for me for a long time now. And I say "good pens" meaning MBs , Pelikans and high end Parkers (75 cislés , Duofolds and 51s NOSs) , Sheaffers and Cross.

All the 45s have 14k gold nibs with no date codes (some with the earlier flat tassies or whatever the clip screw top is called).Five of the Sheaffers are with 14k gold nibs , one (Targa) steel body has a steel nib and the No Nonsence Sheaffer has a gold platted nib. I know that some of the Sheaffer models should have steel nibs instead of gold ones but since the shop owner gave me the liberty to change/replace the nib sections as to my liking , I did change/replace these with the available gold nib sections.

A very interesting haul. That should keep you busy for a while.

Pakistan must be overflowing with old pens. Perhaps all the ones that I can't find in Australia have ended up there!!! :o

Yes , mariom . Pakistan , somehow , has turned to be a perfect hunting ground for all kind of vintage pen species. Currently , it is widely circulated among the local collectors' community that the 100,000 plus NATO troops in Afghanistan have also left their pen possessions in the local Afghan markets. And all those are reaching Pakistan through Afghan and Pakistani pen collectotrs in the hope for these to fetch higher prices here compared to those in Afghanistan.

Very nice. I could not have done better.

Thank you JotterAddict62. I would look for my P45 part pens to complete two to three more pens using the spare parts.

This is fascinating. Perhaps there should be a thread, "Global Hot-Spots for Pen Collectors." Although those who know about them may wish to protect their secret.

My favorites among your impressive new purchases: any gold/brushed chrome, the olive 45 "student" pen and inlaid-nib Sheaffers. I congratulate them on their new home.

James , the brush chrome (second last to the right in the fourth picture) is a Waterman student pen.

I would put the spare gold 45 cap on the olive barrel 45 pen after finding a gold section ring in my spare 45 parts. I am sure I have one or two spares in my part boxes. I, however, already have one olive barrel Custom 45 pen.

And , thank you for the congratulations.

Would anybody be able to tell me what the little pen (1st from right) in the fourth picture) was? It has no nib and the body -cap and barrel - dont say anything. The yellow black pen - the last to the left in the same picture - seems , however , to be a 50s' pakistan made button filler Regal pen.
